Appearance Profiler:-
The Appearance Profiler allows you to set up custom appearance profiles based on sets
(search and selection) and property values, and use them to color-code objects.
Appearance profiles can be saved as DAT files and shared with other Navisworks users.
You either have to set up an appearance profiler inside of Navis to color your models or you set up
materials inside of revit with your colors, apply those materials to your elements and export. Then
your elements will have colors inside of Navis. Appearance Profiler is the way to go. Or you can
exporting DWF model from revit.

Selection Sets:-
Creating selection sets is an easy way to manage groups of objects within a project such as Interior
Walls, Hot Water Pipes or Structural Elements. We can use selection sets for turning visibility on
and off, or for use in clash detection.
Search Sets:-
A search set is a set of rules that form a query to find specific objects of a 3D model by their
parameters.
NAVISWORK BASICS - HSRathore
A Search Set is a dynamic group of elements in the model derived automatically by a search based
on shared criteria.
Search Sets have a huge advantage over Selection Sets due to their dynamic ability to adapt to the
iterative nature of the building models over the lifecycle of the project. Selection Sets on the other
hand, will need personal attention during each iteration to ensure that it’s properly updated.
When creating Batch Clash Tests for your project, Sets can be very purposeful in slimming down
possible coordination issues. Search Sets will constantly monitor themselves as changes occur while
Selection Sets will need that extra parental supervision.
Search Sets also have the ability to be exported from one project and imported into others.
Unfortunately Selection Sets cannot.

Selection Inspector:-
The Selection Inspector is a dockable window, which displays a list of all the selected objects & the
Quick Properties associated with those objects. And export these as .CSV file as a Schedule.

When the Navisworks users save a file in NWD file format all important things concerning the
project are saved in a single file such as loaded models, the scene’s environment, favorite viewpoints
and current view etc. This helps in creating a snapshot of a project and hence it is called a complete
file. (NWD for client share)
NWF files is very small.NWF is often used as a standard file format by Navisworks users while
they work on building projects. This file format is used because it helps in updating the original
source file. (WIP file i.e. resolving clashes updating model and export again)
Workspace of navis:-
Workspaces retain information about which windows are open, their positions, and the size of the
application window.
Workspaces retain changes made to the ribbon and to the Quick Access toolbar.
Clipping Plane:-
The larger the far clip plane and the smaller the near clip plane (or the bigger the difference between
them) the less precise your depth buffer will be (In simple terms). This could create what is known
as Z-Fighting. Z-Fighting is when there isn’t enough precision in the camera’s depth buffer to know
if an object is in front or behind another object that is at a similar distance from the camera. The
result is the two objects flickering as from frame to frame a different one is deemed in front of the
other.
Just to elaborate a bit more, what matters is the ratio between the far and near clipping planes.
Not the linear difference. So, if you’re having problems, pushing your near clipping plane out a
few meters helps a lot more than pulling the far clipping plane in by the same amount.
If I had a far clipping plane of 10,000, I would set the near clipping plane to at least 1.0, and maybe
try for 2 or 5 (or even 10 if I can manage it).
Note:-
When we export clash test XML file only clah test which are made between search set get exported.
And when importing this XML file back in other navis file, it will work when the search set finds
the same parameter through which the set is created earlier.

Timeliner in Navis:-
The TimeLiner tool enables you to link your model to an external construction schedule for visual
time and cost based planning.
3) Open Timeliner Window. Add this task one by one (Name as corrospondence set)
or by right click and select Auto-Add Tasks.
Then Plan Dates and Cost.
4) Attach SET
5) Simulate

Quantification in Navis:-
In Autodesk Navisworks, takeoff is carried out using the Quantification feature. Quantification
helps you automatically make material estimates, measure areas and count building components.

To take off:-
Select the model element > Then select the classification category in which they are falling > Then
click on Model Takeoff.
Walkthrough in Navis:-
1) create viewpoints along the way that you walk that you want to record.
or go to Animation> Record
2) create a new animation. Then drag the saved viewpoints in the right order into the animation.
Think of the viewpoints as being the keyframes
3) play the animation in Navisworks to see if the motion is what you want
4) Export the animation using this codec.
