Coursework Brief:
There are two sections in this coursework – Section A (90%) and Section B (10%). The deadline is 20th January
2025 at 16:00. This will be weighted at 100% of the overall module marks. The word limit is 3000 words (+/-
10%).
SEMESTER 1 2024/25
When working on this report, you should utilise all relevant module materials and apply appropriate
innovation tools and theories throughout your analysis. The report must demonstrate clarity, logical
structure, critical thinking, and creativity. Enhance your work with illustrations, tables, figures, and
appendices where applicable. Additional instructions on report preparation will be provided during the
lecture and seminar sessions.
Choose a topic that genuinely interests you and confirm your choice here. Please note that it is your
responsibility to ensure that your chosen technological innovation meets the above criteria and provides
sufficient valid information for this coursework.
Using examples from the innovation simulation (currently scheduled to take place during University week
15), and reflecting on relevant module content, critically discuss your learning and the causes of
success/failure in New Product Development.
Please note that in order to write up the report for Section B, you must actively participate in the innovation
simulation and complete the assigned tasks. If you do not participate in and contribute to the simulation,
you will not receive any marks for this section.

Formatting guidelines:
1. Font size 12, Arial or Calibri, with 1.5 line spacing.
2. You should make use of headings/subheadings.
3. You should use the Harvard style for referencing in your assignment (refer to
https://library.soton.ac.uk/sash/referencing). Ensure you provide proper references, not just a bibliography.
You are strongly advised to begin preparing the coursework well in advance of the submission deadline,
ideally starting in the first week of the module. It is highly recommended that you aim to complete Section A
of this report before the Christmas break to receive formative feedback, leaving the final week for
completing Section B.
Marking scheme
A detailed marking scheme is provided, and you are advised to review it in detail.
Nature of Assessment: This is a SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT. See ‘Weighting’ section above for the percentage that
this assignment counts towards your final module mark.
Word Limit: +/-10% either side of the word count (see above) is deemed to be acceptable. Any text that exceeds
an additional 10% will not attract any marks. The relevant word count includes items such as cover page, title
page, table of contents, in-text citations and section headings, if used. The relevant word count excludes tables,
figures, your list of references and any appendices at the end of your coursework submission.
You should always include the word count (from Microsoft Word, not Turnitin), at the end of your coursework
submission, before your list of references.
Title/Cover Page: You must include a title/ cover page that includes: your Student ID, Module Code, Assignment
Title, Word Count. This assignment will be marked anonymously, please ensure that your name does not appear
on any part of your assignment.
References: You should use the Harvard style to reference your assignment. The library provide guidance on how

Submission Deadline: Please note that the submission deadline for Southampton Business School is 16.00 for ALL
assessments.
Turnitin Submission: The assignment MUST be submitted electronically via Turnitin, which is accessed via the
individual module on Blackboard. Further guidance on submitting assignments is available on the Blackboard
support pages.
It is important that you allow enough time prior to the submission deadline to ensure your submission is
processed on time as all late submissions are subject to a late penalty. We would recommend you allow 30
minutes to upload your work and check the submission has been processed and is correct. Please make sure you
submit to the correct assignment link.
Email submission receipts are not currently supported with Turnitin Feedback Studio LTI integrations, however
following a submission, students are presented with a banner within their assignment dashboard that provides
a link to download a submission receipt. You can also access your assignment dashboard at any time to
download a copy of the submission receipt using the receipt icon. It is vital that you make a note of your

Submission ID (Digital Receipt Number). This is a unique receipt number for your submission, and is proof of
successful submission. You may be required to provide this number at a later date. We recommend that you
take a screenshot of this page, or note the number down on a piece of paper.
The last submission prior to the deadline will be treated as the final submission and will be the copy that is
assessed by the marker.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the version received by the deadline is the final version, resubmissions
after the deadline will not be accepted in any circumstances.
