[Surah Bani Israa'eel, verse 37] (1) Islaamic History The martyrdom of Hadhrat
Anas bin Nadhar τ
Hadhrat Anas bin Nadhar τ from amongst the Ansaar was the paternal
uncle of Hadhrat Anas bin Maalik τ. Rasulullaah ρ said about him, “If
Anas bin Nadhar takes an oath, Allaah will ensure that He fulfils it.” He
was blessed with tremendous courage and was very pained that he was
unable to participate in the Battle of Badr. He therefore resolved to do
his very best if there ever was another battle. The Battle of Uhud then
took place and he fought with great valour. Although the Muslims were
winning the battle, the Mushrikeen suddenly got the upper hand when
some of the Sahabah ψ abandoned their posts at a mountain pass.
When the Mushrikeen started to attack from the rear, the Muslims were
caught in a deadly crossfire and started to disperse in confusion.
Seeing Hadhrat Sa'd bin Mu’aadh τ, Hadhrat Anas bin Nadhar τ said,
“Where are you going to, O Sa’d? I swear by Allaah that I can smell the
fragrance of Jannah coming from Mount Uhud!” Saying this, he
penetrated the ranks of the Mushrikeen army and fought until he was
martyred. Over eighty sword and arrow wounds were counted on his
body afterwards.
(2) Rasulullaah ρ’s Miracle Shattering a boulder
When the trench was being dug for the Battle of the Trench, the
Sahabah ψ encountered a massive boulder, which they could not break.
After Rasulullaah ρ sprinkled some water over it, the Sahabah ψ
present there said, “We swear by the Being Who has sent you as a
Rasul that the boulder has actually become soft.” Rasulullaah ρ then
struck it thrice, causing it to be reduced to a pile of dust.

When Rasulullaah ρ kissed the Hajar Aswad after performing Tawaaf,
he kept his mouth on it and wept for a while. Seeing him weep,
Hadhrat Umar τ also started to weep. “O Umar!” Rasulullaah ρ said,
“This really is the place to weep.”
[Ibn Maajah 2945, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar τ]
Although it is Sunnah to kiss the Hajar Aswad, to cause harm to other
Muslims in the process is Haraam. Therefore, when there is a large
crowd, it is best just to point the hands in the direction of the Hajar
Aswad and kiss them instead.

Although he was Khalifah for only 2 ½ years, Hadhrat Umar bin Abdul

was prosperous and justice abounding. If fact, the people were so
prosperous that despite searching for worthy recipients, the people
could not find anyone to give their zakaah to and had to return with
their zakaah. The effect of his justice was so profound that it extended
to the animal kingdom as well. As a result, wolves and sheep grazed
together during his time since the wolves dared not harm anyone.
Hadhrat Moosa bin A’yun states that he was once grazing his goats
when a wolf suddenly pounced on one of them. He then lamented, “It
seems as if the good Khalifah Umar bin Abdul Azeez ر اhas passed

(2) Allaah’s Power Mother’s milk
Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “Mothers should breastfeed their children for two
whole years”.
[Surah Baqara, verse 233]
Mother’s milk is a most nutritious feed with benefits that are too
numerous to mention. It cannot be adequately substituted by any
formula or milk of any animal. If a mother does breastfeed her child for
two full years, the child will develop an effective resistance against
diseases and the mother will also not have to worry about suffering
from breast cancer. Medical science has discovered this only now
whereas Islaam has encouraged it for over 1400 years. There is
certainly tremendous good in everything that Allaah has commanded

the possession of a Jew. He therefore pressed charges and the case
was brought before Qaadhi Shurayh ر ا. Hadhrat Ali τ presented his
son Hadhrat Hasan τ and a person named Qumbur as his witnesses to
testify that the armour was indeed his own. “I shall accept the
testimony of Qumbur,” Qaadhi Shurayh ر اsaid, “but I cannot admit
the testimony of your son because the testimony of a son cannot be
accepted in favour of his father. You therefore need to bring another
witness.” However, since Hadhrat Ali τ was unable to present another
witness, Qaadhi Shurayh ر اpassed in favour of the Jew. Picture the

Jew then accepted Islaam.
(2) Allaah’s Power Who makes water reach the
ends of trees through their
roots?
We need some machine or pump if we want water to reach a place that
is higher up and cannot do so in any other manner. Allaah has allowed
many trees of all sizes to grow on earth, some reaching heights of over
200 feet. However, Allaah makes the water from the depths of the
ground reach the roots of these trees and then move further up to
reach every leaf growing on the tree. This is all done without any
machinery or pumps. In fact, the water then even reaches further to
the fruits and flowers that may grow upon these leaves. Such is the
great power of Allaah, which indicates that He is the Rabb of all.

Moosa dispatched an army of seven thousand men under the command
of Hadhrat Taariq ر ا. After conquering various regions like Al Jazaa’ir,

Ahadeeth
When he grew up, Imaam Abu Haneefah ر اpaid keen interest in
acquiring the knowledge of Deen and studied under senior teachers
and Imaams, eventually mastering the sciences he learned. The
Fuqahaa and Muhadditheen attest to his proficiency in these fields and
acknowledge that he was indeed a Haafidh of Ahadeeth. He did not
only study under the famous Muhadditheen of Kufa, but also travelled
to Makkah and Madinah to study Ahadeeth. His teachers numbered
almost 400. Allaama Dhahabi ر اwrites, “Imaam Abu Haneefah ر ا
was an expert in the science of Ahadeeth and was regarded as one of
the Huffaadh of Ahadeeth.” In fact, contribution to the science of
Ahadeeth was tremendous in that he was the first to deliberate upon
the conditions for narrating Ahadeeth and to specify the various ranks
of the Ahadeeth. He was also well aware of the lives and credibility of
the various narrators of Ahadeeth. It is for this reason that Hadhrat

more authentic Ahadeeth than he did.

these cavities that the bee stores the honey. What a great system has

Iraq and Khurasaan in search of the knowledge of Deen. He enjoyed a
prominent position amongst the Huffaadh of Ahadeeth and the Fuqahaa
and it was always said that the science of Ahadeeth was made as easy
for him as steel was made pliable for Hadhrat Dawood υ. Other
scholars have mentioned that Imaam Abu Dawood was created for
Ahadeeth in this world and for Jannah in the Aakhirah because they
knew of no one better than him. Amongst the numerous books that he
wrote, the most renowned is the Sunan Abu Dawood, which comprises
of 4800 Ahadeeth. Imaam Abu Dawood ر اpassed away in Basrah on

(2) Allaah’s Power Lightning and thunder
When dense clouds start to pile upon one another in the sky, Allaah
creates tremendous flashes of light and sound without any machine or
power supply. These flashes of lightning are so intense that they turn
the night into daylight and the roar of the thunder so deafening that it
strikes fear into the heart. If it is not the sheer might of Allaah behind
all of this, what then can it be?

Rasulullaah ρ said, “I swear by the Being Who controls my life that you

when he was just 18 years of age. His knowledge and piety is
commonly accepted by all and his words were so effective that any Jew
or Christian present in his discourses would accept Islaam and Muslims
would repent from their wrongs. It was for this reason that over five
thousand Jews and Christians accepted Islaam at his hands and over a
hundred thousand Muslims repented because of this. Because the
people during the time of Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jaylaani ر اbehaved as
if they were never going to the Aakhirah, he focussed their
attention towards the Aakhirah in his discourses and created the love
for Allaah within their hearts. This always brought the crowd to tears.

Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “Do not hide testimony (when you are called to deliver it)
for whoever hides it has a sinful heart. Allaah knows well whatever you do”.
[Surah Baqara, verse 283]
(7) This World People who desire only this
world
Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “18. Whoever desires the pleasures of this world, We
shall speedily grant (him/her) whatever We will (not necessarily what s/he wills) for whoever
We will (and not for everyone who wills) in this very world, and then We will appoint
Jahannam for him. He will enter it admonished (condemned) and rejected”.
[Surah Bani Israa'eel, verse 18]
(8) The Aakhirah The punishment in the grave is
true
When Rasulullaah ρ once passed by two graves, he said, “The people in
these two graves are being punished for acts that do not seem serious.
The one is being punished for not guarding against urine splashing on
him and the other for carrying tales.”
[Bukhaari 218, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas τ]

people will start receiving punishment already in their graves for their
sins.

Imaam Abul Hasan Ash’ari ر اwas from the progeny of the famous
Sahabi Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari τ. There was a sect during his time
called the Mu’tazila, who were regarded as intelligent people and who
had a great influence amongst the academics of the land. Their
opinions were mostly based on logical deductions and it became
fashionable amongst the masses to follow them. Their ideologies
causes tremendous chaos and deviation amongst the people and it was
to eradicate their disastrous influence that Allaah selected Imaam Abul
Hasan ر ا. He opposed their false beliefs and made a concerted effort
to attend their gatherings and convince them of the truth. When people
asked him why he took the trouble to engage with these people of
Bid'ah, he would reply, “If I do not go to them, how will the truth
become apparent and how will they know that there is someone to
defend the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa'ah and to substantiate their
beliefs.” He thus continued to disprove their beliefs until they were
weakened and unable to exert their influence. He passed away in
Baghdad in the year 324 A.H.
(2) Allaah’s Power The ability to defend
Allaah has granted every creature the natural ability to defend itself.
Bulls, goats and oxen have been given horns to defend themselves.
Wild animals such as deer and buffaloes have also been given horns
with which they are able to ward off attacks from even predatory
animals. It is a sign of Allaah’s great power that He has taught all
creatures various methods by which they are able to fend for
themselves.
(3) A Fardh Believing that Rasulullaah ρ

Allaah states in the Qur'aan, “He (Rasulullaah ρ) is Allaah’s Rasool and the seal of

It is Fardh (obligatory) to believe that Rasulullaah ρ was the final Nabi,

referred to as Sajzi. He is the founder of the Chistiyyah school and had
spent 20 years in the service of his mentor Hadhrat Uthmaan Haarooni
ر ا. He then proceeded to India after being appointed as a successor.
India was then steeped in Kufr and Shirk and people were worshipping
stones, trees, cows and even dung. He travelled extensively throughout
India to raise the call to the Oneness of Allaah and taking the message
of Islaam throughout the land in his mission of Da’wah. As a result,
thousand of people accepted Islaam and the cry of Allaahu Akbar could
be heard throughout the country. The people themselves then carried
the message forward to others. After continuously pursuing this effort
of Da’wah for almost half a century, Hadhrat Mu’eenud Deen ر ا

(2) Allaah’s Power The kangaroo
The kangaroo is an animal resembling the rabbit, but larger in size,
close to the height of a human being. Its forelegs are small, but the
hindlegs are large and powerful. It has a long and powerful tail upon
which it is able to sit. The unique feature if this animal is that it has a
pouch on its abdomen in which it places its newborn children, which
measure only an inch at birth and cannot even open their eyes. Despite
this, they are able to grab at the hairs of the mother’s body and hop
into the pouch, where they drink milk and grow. The babies spend
most of their time in the pouch, being carried about by the mother,
who feeds them and keeps them safe. It is only by the immense power

Sultan Salaahud Deen Ayyoobi ر اis known as the conqueror of Baytul
Muqaddas. He was an accomplished king during the 6th Islaamic
century and is known as Ayyoob because his father’s name was
Ayyoob. Her grew up in a middle-classed but noble home and was
trained as a military man. After becoming the king, he made many
sacrifices and needed to exercise great fortitude. He made it his
objective in life to uplift the name of Allaah in this world and in this he
realised his greatest feat, which was to free Baytul Muqaddas from the
hands of the Kuffaar. Baytul Muqaddas had been ruled by the
Christians for 90 years, during which time they had oppressed the
Muslims most savagely. However, when he conquered the land from
the Christians, rather than taking revenge from them, Sultan Salaahud
Deen Ayyoobi ر اannounced that every elderly person who cold not

himself for inner reformation before Hadhrat Fareed Ganj ر اand

end of the Alaa’ee reign and drinking, sin and gambling were the order
of the day. However through his efforts, the majority of Muslims in
India had turned towards Ibaadah and leading lives of abstinence.
There were more people attending his gatherings than those of the

Alaa’ud Deen Khalji insisted on meeting him, Hadhrat Nizaamud Deen

I shall exit through the other.” He gave up eating and drinking forty

(2) Allaah’s Power Colours
It is through colours that many things are distinguished because they
would be impossible to tell apart without their differences in colour.
Just think of how fruits are distinguished by the colours of their skins

This is yet another sign of the power of Allaah.

(7) This World When will this world become
subservient to a person
Rasulullaah ρ said that when a person makes the Aakhirah his objective
Allaah will fill his heart with contentment, gather all his affairs and the
world will become subservient to him. On the other hand, when a
person makes this world his objective of life, Allaah will disperse all his
affairs and place poverty and hunger before his eyes (he fears it all the
time and worries what will happen to him. He will thus spend all his

world as is decreed for him.

(8) The Aakhirah The Day of Qiyaamah
Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “Never! (You should never think that these acts do not
warrant punishment. They certainly do! If not already in this world, this punishment will definitely
arrive on that Day of Qiyaamah) When the earth shall be ripped to shreds (to be replaced with
another earth) (the day) when your Rabb shall commence proceedings (to take reckoning
together) with the angels (who will appear) in rows and the day when Jahannam will be
brought to the fore (for all to see). On that day man will understand (the errors of his ways in
this world). But of what use will this understanding be (because it will be too late to make
amends) ?”.
[Surah Fajr, verses 21-23]
(9) Cures from the Qur'aan Counteracting heat with
and Rasulullaah ρ watermelons
Rasulullaah ρ used to eat watermelons with dates saying, “We counter
the heat of dates with watermelon and counter the cold of watermelon
with the dates.”

destroy them in the Aakhirah). Those are the sinners (the heedless and disobedient ones)”.

When Tipu Sultan ر اwas about to fight his last battle, his secretary
Habibullaah said, “Sir! It is time that you should have mercy on
yourself and that your princes should become orphans.” To this Tipu
Sultan ر اreplied, “I have already decided that my family and I should
be sacrificed for the Deen of Muhammad ρ.” When the enemy gained
entry into the fortress through the betrayal of Mir Saadiq, Abdul
Ghaffaar the faithful general of Tipu Sultan ر اwas martyred. Tipu
Sultan ر اwas about to eat a morsel of food when he heard the news.
He then said, “Our days are also numbered.” He then jumped into the
thick of the battle and fought for a long while. However, when the
fortress fell to the enemy, his deceitful slave Rajah Khan bade him to
surrender himself. In anger he replied, “A single day in the life of a lion
is better than a thousand days in the life of a jackal.” Despite several
bullet wounds, he continued fighting until the evening but eventually
fell to a hail of bullets from every direction when a traitor gave his
position away to an enemy officer. When he fell, one of the enemy
soldiers tried to snatch his jewel encrusted sword from him. Despite
the bullet to his chest, he fought the soldier off and managed to
dispatch him to Jahannam. A bullet in his head finally killed him and he
drank from the goblet of martyrdom on the 4th of May 1799 A.D. He
was given a royal funeral the following day and buried by the side of
his father Haydar Ali.
(2) Allaah’s Power Sounds in the air
Air is essential for the survival of man, but is also necessary to carry
sounds so that we can hear them. Sounds are inaudible on the moon
because of the absence of air. Sounds create waves in the air, which
then collide with the eardrums, causing them to vibrate. The delicate
eardrums then immediately relate the message to the brain. It is by
the agency of the air that sound is able to travel a mile in five seconds.
When sounds are transmitted over radio waves, they can reach the
speed of light. This is yet another sign of the power of Allaah.
(3) A Fardh It is Fardh to treat your
parents kindly
It is Fardh (obligatory) to treat one’s parents well in every condition.
72
The Qur'aan has emphasised this in various verses and has even
commanded this together with the command to worship Him. Allaah
says, “Your Rabb has commanded that you worship only Him and that
you treat your parents kindly”.
[Surah Bani Israa'eel, verse 23]

(10) Qur'aanic Advice
Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “O people, eat of the lawful (that which has been declared
lawful by Allaah and that which is lawfully acquired) and pure (and wholesome) things of the
earth, and do not follow in the footsteps of Shaytaan (by making a Halaal thing Haraam or a
Haraam thing Halaal). Indeed, he is your open enemy. He (Shaytaan) instructs you only to
commit evil acts, acts of immodesty and to attribute to Allaah such things about which
you have no knowledge (no knowledge that these matters are from Allaah, such as the things that
people declare Haraam by themselves or when they change the text of what Allaah has revealed)”.

(6) A Sin The punishment for spreading
evil
Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “There shall be an excruciating punishment in this
world and in the Aakhirah for those who love immorality (and who love the news of immoral
behaviour) to spread among the Mu'mineen. Allaah knows (the gravity of every sin) and you
do not know (you should therefore abstain from everything that Allaah forbids without question)”.
[Surah Noor, verse 19]
(7) This World The wealth of this wudhu is
temporary
Allaah says in the Qur'aan, “Destruction be for every person who searches for
faults (in others) and who mocks (the Mu'mineen); who (because of his extreme love for wealth,
he) amasses wealth and keeps meticulous count of it (not spending any of it for Allaah’s’
pleasure). He (foolishly) thinks that his wealth will keep him alive forever. Never! (This will
never be so! He will soon have to die and then) He will certainly be thrown into the “Thresher”
(“Crusher”)”.
[Surah Humazah, verses 1-4]
(8) The Aakhirah Resurrection
