Brief Description of the Research

Background:
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the subsequent need for dialysis present substantial financial and
emotional burdens on patients, particularly in low- and middle-income regions. In Panabo City, many
dialysis patients face significant challenges in managing the high costs associated with regular dialysis
treatments, which often lead to financial instability. Moreover, the emotional strain of living with a chronic
illness, including anxiety, depression, and social isolation, exacerbates the difficulties faced by these
patients. Previous studies have shown that while healthcare access and financial aid programs exist, they
are often inadequate to address the comprehensive needs of dialysis patients, leaving them vulnerable to
further health complications and emotional distress (Ozan & Aksoy, 2017; Jones & Daniels, 2019). This
study aims to fill a gap in the existing literature by examining both the financial and emotional burdens of
dialysis patients in Panabo City using a mixed-method approach, to provide a more holistic understanding
of their lived experiences and inform better healthcare support systems.

Research Method: Mixed Method (Explanatory Sequential Design)

Respondents: Dialysis Patients/ Dialysis Patients Relatives
Research Questions:
1. What is the level of dialysis patients’ satisfaction in terms of:
1.1 Medical Services
1.2 Support Programs
1.3 Dialysis Facilities
2. What is the level of patients’ engagement in managing their health in terms of:
2.1 Cognitive Engagement (awareness and understanding of their treatment)
2.2 Behavioral Engagement (adherence to medical advice and lifestyle changes)
2.3 Physical Engagement (effort and participation in treatments and physical activities)
3. Is there a significant relationship between the level of satisfaction with dialysis services and patient
engagement in managing their health?
4. What are the patients’ experiences regarding dialysis services in Panabo City?
5. How does dialysis service satisfaction affect patients’ engagement in their treatment and overall health
management?
