The five (5) previous travel trends for the past five (5) years

Influencers - They became one of the travel trends as people choose to go to places that an
influencer also visited. Influencers hold an image to promote destinations and activities that
people can try. It can be about the place, food or activities. These famous personalities
influence people to visit destinations.

Rise of Mobile - The rise of mobile phones and internet is one of the travel trends in the past
years. Searching about the destination is much easier. Booking and reserving gets easier too.
Because of the rise of mobile gadgets and the rise of internet, it is much easier to gather
information.

Airbnb - Applications are also famous in order to offer convenient booking and reserving to
customers. Airbnb is one of the apps that people can use. They can choose an accommodation,
accessibility or activities that they prefer just by downloading the app. It is one of the travel
trends that people acknowledge to use because it gives them comfortability just by clicking.

Cruise Travel - Many people choose cruises for their vacations because of their value, food,
pampering, and family friendly, all-in-one atmosphere. Romance, variety, reunions, new
experiences, and simplicity also rank high on the list of reasons for choosing a cruise vacation.

Staycations - Before the pandemic, staycations are very popular especially to the young ones.
Outing of friends or family is one of the travel trends here in the Philippines. People especially
the young ones like to get away with the stress they are going through, it can be because of
work, problems or studies. This travel trend is very evident for the past five years.

The five (5) possible travel trends for the next five (5) years

AI and Virtual Assistance - Technologies will likely expand its capacity and capability. It will
expand its features especially because of the pandemic. Some of the hotel and restaurants also
started inventing robots to serve people and it is an AI and virtual assistance. Because of these
technologies that are being expanded, it will be likely a travel trend that people will often use in
the near future.

Self-booking - It will be a travel trend because some people desire for more flexibility in
travelling and like to have their experience in their own way.
Wider Adoption of Contactless Payments - For a long time, contactless payment has been a
major travel technology trend, but the situation with COVID has made it even more critical.
Accepting contactless payments is a perfect way to show your consumers that you're doing
whatever you can to keep them safe by reducing the amount of shared surfaces they have to
touch. Aside from the health advantages of using contactless payments as much as possible,
the system can also offer greater comfort and a faster payment process for travelers.

Glampervan Road Trips - According to peer-to-peer RV rental company RVshare, there has
been a 166 per-cent year-on-year increase in bookings between September and November
2020. Why is this? With travel restrictions forcing people to take domestic holidays, travelling by
road (rather than rail or air) is the obvious choice in the viral age, as being in your own vehicle
provides the most security. Plus it gives a wonderful sense of freedom after a prolonged period
of being at home.

Augmented Reality - It combines virtual elements with real-world experiences. Augmented


reality can also be used to provide information about the location that a visitor is exploring —
cultural or historical data or listings for entertainment and travel. Augmented reality is easily
realized using common devices such as smartphones, further driving these travel trends.
