1. Introduction
Utilizing a new generation of design, SOUTH S6 external UHF

radio is a high-power and high-speed data communication

device with various transmission formats. It applies a

brand-new radio frequency circuit design with excellent heat

emission ability, a concise GUI and v smart controlling

modes. This radio utilizes advanced radio frequency

identification (RFID), digital processing technique, and

baseband processing technique to ensure its lasting reliable

performance. The transmission speed of S6 can reach 9600Bps.

Equipping with a 19200 high-speed wireless modular radio, S6

thus has a relatively high radio frequency transmit power. It

applies 2GFSK/4FSK modulation(data speed: 9600Bps,

19.2KBps), which has a high transmission speed together with

a low error rate. S6 supports most of the commonly used

protocols both at home and abroad. Additionally, it supports

the emerging Farlink protocol. It works with high efficiency

pairing up with RTK to conduct surveys. Its radio frequency

covers bands from 410MHz to 470MHz. S6 contains up to 120

channels that can be configured flexibly. Meanwhile, it can

operate easily with in-built Bluetooth and support wireless

transmission.

3
 Radiator: When the radio is sending signals, it will produce

a large amount of heat while the radiator stops it from

getting too hot.

 Hook: It hangs the radio on a tripod or other braces.

Warning: Do not place anything on the radiator,

otherwise the radio will be overheated hence
damage or danger.

 SELECT/CHANGE Button: Switch protocol. S6 supports three

protocols: SOUTH, FARLINK and Trimtalk.

 POWER Button: Turn on/off the radio. Press the button for 2

seconds to turn on/off the radio. When the radio is on, you

can press the button for about 1 second to search for a

Bluetooth connection.

 (BT) Bluetooth Indicator: Bluetooth has connected to the

radio when this indicator flickers.

 (DATA) Data Transmission Indicator: A flickering indicator

means the radio is sending data.

 (PWR) Power Indicator: It denotes whether the radio is

on/off.

 Protocol Indicator: 1) Green light: Farlink; 2) Red light:

SOUTH; 3) Blue light: Trimtalk.

 5-pin Port: You can connect S6 to an RTK receiver to

transfer data or connect it to a power supply through this

port.

 Antenna Connector: Install an antenna here

2.3 Accessories:
1 ) Radio Antenna: The UHF antenna is designed for the

outdoors, whose frequency is 450MHz-470MHz, with

several merits such as compact, aesthetically pleasing and

durable.

2.5 Wireless Transmission

S6 supports wireless transmission, that is to say, radio and

receiver can transmit data without wires.

When you turn on the radio, press the POWER button for

about one second to enter the searching mode.

7
LCD Screen: "188" and "000" flicker
alternatively

Flickering white light: It means the

radio is already in searching mode.

When the radio finish searching, the LCD screen will display the last two

digits of the machine code.

For example:
If RTK "SG70A314800341" works as a base to
conduct wireless transmission, the radio LCD screen
will display the last two digits of the machine code,
which in this case is: 41.

If it does not show up the number "41", you can use

the UP/DOWN button to look for it.

When it is correctly selected, after 5 seconds the

radio will automatically connect to the machine;
meanwhile, the machine will automatically set to
base mode.

11
2.7 Check List

 Nominal Voltage: 12-15V (typical voltage: 13.8V);

 Radio-frequency Emission Power: 25W;

 Rated Current: 6.0A.

 Radio-frequency Emission Power: Emission power is relevant

to voltage. Please check the voltage before using it.

 High/Low Power: Please use Low Power (L) when it is

sufficient for surveying. High Power (H) will multiply power

consumption; moreover, overuse of High Power (H) will

reduce battery lifespan. Please set the radio on high terrain

as possible. A suitable height would be beneficial to signal

transmission.

 Ripple Factor (RF): RF should be smaller than 40mV. A

smaller RF has less influence on radio frequency and higher

communication quality.

 Power Connection: Please ensure connecting to power

supplies with anode and cathode properly.

 Electromagnetic Environment: Please monitor the

electromagnetic environment before the survey to avoid a

communication blind district.

 Choosing Antenna: There are several basic parameters for

choosing a suitable antenna such as frequency bandwidth,

12
operating frequency, transmission gain, directivity,

impedance and standing-wave ratio(SWR). Usually, the

effective bandwidth of an antenna is 20MHz. You can

choose antennas based on the intended using frequencies.

If you intend to transmit from a far distance, our suggestion

is to choose directive antennas or high-gain antennas. In

addition, please check whether the impedance of antennas

and feeders can match the impedance of the antenna

connector(50Ω).

Our Suggestions:

 We suggest using 12V/40Ah power supplies. While using

power supplies, the regulated current needs to be kept on

10A.

 We suggest recharging your power supplies on time.

Overuse of power supplies may reduce battery lifespan.

 We suggest replacing the power supplies after using them

for about half a year or one year to ensure the radio

transmission distance.
