In the following questions, a statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of
Reason (R). Choose the correct answer out of the following choices.
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
Assertion (A): If two positive numbers are such that sum is 16 and sum of their cubes is
19 minimum, then the numbers are 8 and 8.
Reasoning (R): Let f be twice differentiable at x = c such that f′(c) = 0 and f "(c) > 0 then 1
f has a local minima and f ( c ) is the local minimum value of f.
0 , if x is rational
Assertion (A): The function f : R→R defined as 𝑓(𝑥) = { is
1 , if x is irrational
20 bijective. 1
Reason (R): A function is said to be bijective if it is both one - one and onto.

SECTION E
This section comprises of 3 case-study/passage-based questions of First two case study questions
have three sub-parts (i), (ii), (iii) of marks 1, 1, 2 respectively. The third case study question has
two sub-parts of 2 marks each.
36 Solar Panels have to be installed carefully so that the tilt of the roof, and the direction to the
sun, produce the largest possible electrical power in the solar panels. A surveyor uses his
instrument to determine the coordinates of the four corners of a roof where solar panels are
to be mounted. In the picture , suppose the points are labelled the roof corner nearest to the
camera in units of meters 𝑃1 (6,8,4) , 𝑃2 (21,8,4), 𝑃3 (21,16,10) and 𝑃4 (6,16,10) .

38 Neha bought two cages of birds: Cage-I contains 5 parrots and 1 owl and Cage –II contains
6 parrots. One day Neha forgot to lock both cages and two birds flew from Cage-I to Cage-
II (simultaneously). Then two birds flew back from cage-II to cage-I(simultaneously).
Assume that all the birds have equal chances of flying.
On the basis of the above information, answer the following questions:-
(i) When two birds flew from Cage-I to Cage-II and two birds flew back from
Cage-II to Cage-I then find the probability that the owl is still in Cage-I. 2
(ii) When two birds flew from Cage-I to Cage-II and two birds flew back from
Cage-II to Cage-I, the owl is still seen in Cage-I, what is the probability that one
2
parrot and the owl flew from Cage-I to Cage-II?
