ABSTRACT
Rubble Scan introduces an innovative solution for detecting individuals trapped under rubble,
particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters. Leveraging microwave radio frequency technology
in the L and S bands, the system aims to streamline rescue operations.

Building on historical developments in microwave-based life detection, RubbleScan utilizes the L

and S bands to detect subtle body movements such as heartbeat and breathing. This technology offers
a more efficient and less intrusive alternative to traditional methods like using dogs or acoustic
sensors.

The phased array of microwave signals in RubbleScan analyses changes in reflections, providing
precise information about the vital signs of buried victims. Beyond natural disasters, this technology
holds potential applications in anti-terrorist and hostage rescue operations.

With a focus on simplicity and reliability, RubbleScan employs Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW)
oscillators and Independent Component Algorithm (ICA) processing to enhance the overall system
performance.

The project aims to improve the efficiency of rescue operations, offering valuable time for search
and rescue teams and increasing the chances of saving lives during critical situations. RubbleScan
represents a step forward in through-obstacle detection, contributing to enhanced disaster response
and humanitarian efforts.
