고체역학 - Report #2 (2007)

담당교수 채영석
1. The top view of pin A of the pliers is shown. The cross-
sectional area of the pin is 4.5  . What is the average
shear stress in the pin when 150 N forces are applied as
shown?

2. A pin-connected truss of which the all members are two

force members is loaded as shown. Member CF is
fabricated using the steel with failure strength of 36 ksi.
Determine the cross-sectional area for the member CF
with a factor of safety 4. (Ans : 3.33 in
2
)

3. The system supports the weight of 3,000-N excavator. Find

the required diameter of the pin at connection B, if the
allowable stress in shear of the material is 45 MPa.
(Assuming double shear, and factor of safety = 3)

4. A 3-ft diameter pipe of 8000 lb weight is supported as

shown. Determine the required diameter of the pin at C if
the allowable stress in shear is 3000 psi. (Assuming
double shear at C)

5. The tie rod AB and the bolts are made of steel, for which the yield strengths are 250 MPa in tension
and 150 MPa in shear, and the ultimate strengths are 450 MPa in tension and 270 MPa in shear.
Determine
(a) the minimum diameter d1 for tie rod AB if a factor of
safety of 2.5 with respect to failure by plastic
deformation is specified.
(b) the minimum diameter d2 for the bolt at C if a factor
of safety of 3.5 with respect to failure by fracture is
specified.
