GORDON'S TYPOLOGY OF 11 FUNCTIONAL HEALTH PATTERNS
1. HEALTH PERCEPTION AND MANAGEMENT
Client perceives herself as healthy, expressing confidence in her overall well – being.
She actively manages her health by taking her prescribed medication daily.
2. NUTRITIONAL METABOLIC PATTERN
The client follows a regular eating schedule, consuming meals three times a day. She
does not report any specific restrictions or limits on the types of food she consumes,
suggesting flexible approach to her diet.
3. ELIMINATION-EXCRETION PATTERN
Client reports no difficulty with defecation and states that she is able to pass stools
three times a week.
Client reports normal urinary function, stating that she voids normally throughout a day.
4. ACTIVITY–EXERCISE PATTERN
The client engages in daily exercise, as her current environment supports a routine of
physical activity. She actively participates in regular activities, which contribute to her
overall physical health and well – being.
5. SLEEP AND REST PATTERN
The client reports having a normal sleep pattern, experiencing no disturbances that
affect the quality or duration of her sleep. She is able to rest regularly, suggesting that
her sleep habits support her overall well – being.
6. COGNITIVE-PERCEPTUAL PATTERN
No sensory deficits noted. Oriented to time, place, and person. Responds to stimuli
verbally and physically indicating intact cognitive and perceptual abilities.
7. SELF-PERCEPTION AND SELF-CONCEPT PATTERN
The client feels sad but has a positive view of herself and is content with her body.
However, she is unhappy with her current situation because she is facing conflict with
those around her. Despite this, she chooses to ignore the negativity and wishes to leave
her present environment.
8. ROLE- RELATIONSHIP PATTERN
Client no longer has a job, she is married but separated her husband because he was
hurting her. She has a child, but her child has neglected her.
9. SEXUALITY REPRODUCTIVE PATTERN
Client is already menopause and is not in any kind of relationship.
10. COPING AND STRESS TOLERANCE PATTERN
One coping mechanism of the patient is her desire to leave her current situation. She
wants to work but feels she can no longer do so because she is getting older.
Therefore, she has chosen to stay and accept her circumstances.
11. VALUES- BELIEF PATTERN
The client is Roman Catholic but does not believe in God, she attends rosary sessions
and goes to church every Sunday because it is part of her routine in her current
invironment.
