What is curling?

Curling is an indoor-team sport. It is played with two teams of four curlers (curling players) each one on a rectangular sheet of carefully
prepared refrigerated ice during the winter season. The teams take turns sliding heavy granite stones (hard material used for building)
towards the center of the circles (called home). Two sweepers with brooms sweep the floor and move each stone. Later the sweepers
use some equipment to help direct the stone home. Players don’t need a ball or kind of bat or paddle to play the game.

All four players shoot two stones on each end, beginning with the guide or first
player. The second player shoots next, and the third participates or “vice skip”.
The skip (last player) usually shoots the last stones, and decides on the strategy for
the game. The complex nature of the stone placement and shoot selection
(strategies of the game) have led some people to refer to curling as “chess on ice”.
