Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in MATH 5

I. Objectives
Learning Competencies (MELCs-Based):
a. Visualizes the ratio of 2 given numbers; (M5NS-IIh-122)
b. Identifies and writes equivalent ratios; (M5NS-IIi-124)
c. Appreciate the use of ratio in a real life.

II. Content
Topic: Visualizing, Identifying and Writing Ratio

III. Learning Resources:

References: MELCs MATH- Grade 5: Quarter 2 week 7
Math 5 Module: Quarter 2 week 7
Materials: TV/laptop-Power point presentation, Flash cards, Jengga, lego, nips
and straw, paper, white board and marker

IV. Procedure:
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
1. Preliminary Activities
2. Drill – Multiplication and Division
3. Review – review lesson about division of decimals
4. Motivation – the pupils will play the boat is sinking game with a
challenge. 2 groups will be playing on this game by copying the
number of animals and their sounds. The first group to finish the
task will get a score. (THE BOAT IS SINKING! What is the
SOUND of the-)
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Base on each challenge done by the students they will compare the
sets of numbers done in the previous activity. (DISCOVERY APPROACH)

C. Presenting examples/instances of new lesson

1. Using a power point presentation (ICT Integration)
A ratio is a comparison of two quantities, either things or numbers. The
numbers in a ratio are called the terms of the ratio.
Ratio describes part-to-part comparison or a part-to-whole comparison.
Ratios are written three ways: as a fraction, with a colon, and with the word
“to.” The ratio for quantity a to quantity b is:
𝒂
a:b a to b
𝒃
Fraction form Colon form With word “to”
The teacher will encourage the use of Lego to give examples.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
▪ Identify the correct ratio of the following pictures. Each group will
give a representative to answer the following items. (INI MINIE MY
RATIO)

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Complete the Table
The grade 5 students of Pulungbulu Elemenetary School had a fieldtrip
last December 2022 they went to the zoo. The students listed all the animals
they saw. On their list you can see 8 tigers, 4 crocodiles, 2 lions, 10 parrots, 5
snakes, and 3 giraffe (Pass The White Board)

F. Developing mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)

This activity will be played by everybody. The teacher will show a
set of sentences with their ratio and the students will have to
identify if it’s true or false. If the statement is true all the girls will
have to stand and if it’s false, all the boys will stand. (Girls VS
Boys)
G. Finding practical application of concepts and skills

Let’s Re-Grouped!

1. Last Christmas Party of grade 5 Magsaysay, the section of Mrs. Ashcraft,

decided to distribute the 560 pieces of candies to her 40 students. How much
candies will be given to each students? Express your answer in ratio using the
three ways of wring it. Answer the problem using AGONA.

2. The group will be given 3 packs of nips. Your task is to separate each
colors using straw and write their corresponding ratio on the paper given to you.

3. Your group will play Jengga! You have to arrange the whole jengga
before starting to play. When done, use the dice to determine the color that you
are going to count and write its ratio form for 10x. There should not be 2 similar
color in the list.

4. The 4th group will have to roam around the room to look for pair of
materials that they will write on the given paper in a form of ratio. For every ratio
given, 1 Lego will be its equivalent. If the group were able to build an object using
Lego, they will win the game. (Discovery Approach, First Hand Experiences,
Differentiated activities)

H. Making generalizations/abstractions about the lesson

➢ Ask the pupils what they have learned from the lesson that was
discussed. (ESP Integration and Importance of Ratio, HOTS
questions)

I. Evaluating learning
Express the ratio of the following in 3 ways. (Complete My Table)

Word Problem Colon Fraction With

Form Form word
“to”
1. Isabella has to write a poem in English about her family
consisting 4 lines for every 1 stanza. What is the ratio of stanza
