A leap year comes after every 3 years.

Memory Tip
 Months of 30 days: S—A—J—N. (September, April, June, November).

 Months of 28/29 days: February.

 Remaining all months consist of 31 days.

Counting odd days


Those extra days which cannot make a complete week are called odd days.
To find the number of odd days, in days, weeks, month etc.., we divide that particular
number by 7 until we get a remainder which is less than 7.

Odd days in days:-


365 days = = 52 week and 1 odd day

Odd days in months:


January → 31 days = = 4 weak and 3 odd days.

Odd days in years (above 100 years)


100 years or one century contains 76 ordinary years and 24 leap year
[76 × 52 weeks + 76 odd days] + [24 × 52 weeks + 24 × 2 odd days]
= (76 + 24) × 52 weeks + (76 + 48) odd days
= 100 × 52 weeks + 124 odd days
= 100 × 52 weeks + (17 × 7 + 5) odd days
∴ 100 years contain 5 odd days.
Similarly, 200 years contain 3 odd days.
300 years contain 1 odd days
400 years contain 0 odd days
Any number of year which is a multiple of 400 contain 0 odd days i.e. 800, 1600,
2400 etc.
Codes for the days of week:-
Sunday – 0
Monday – 1
Tuesday – 2
Wednesday – 3
Thursday – 4
Friday – 5
Saturday – 6

In 400 years = 0 odd days
In 300 years = 1 0dd days
In 200 years = 3 odd days
In 100 years = 5 0dd days

Q. How many odd days in 1000 years?

A. Explanation: In 1000 years = 1000 - 800 = 200 (we subtract the given year with the
nearest century year)
So, As in 100 year 5 odd days so in 200 years 5 × 2 = 10 odd days i.e. 1 weak and 3
odd days.

With reference date


In this section, a day on a particular date will be given and you will be asked to find
the day on a given date.

Q. If today is Monday, what day will be 128 days after today?

A. Explanation: 128 days is 126 days (18 weeks) + 2 odd days.


2 odd days after Monday is Wednesday.
Hence, Wednesday is the correct answer.

Q. If 25 December 1990 is a Tuesday, then what day is 25 December 2020?

A. Explanation: We calculate the number of odd days from 1990 to 2020, the number
of odd days is 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2
+ 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 38 or 3 odd days.
So, 3 odd days from Tuesday is Friday.

Without reference date


In this section, a date will be given, and you will need to find the day on the given
date.

Q. What was the day on 26 January 1950?

A. Explanation: 1600 years 0 odd days. 300 years have 1 odd day. 49 years has 12
leap years and 37 normal years. 12 time 2 + 37 = 61 or simply 5 odd days.
Since January is the first month, the year 1950 has 26 days to calculate, so 5 odd
days.
Total odd days is 11 or 4 odd days. So the day is Thursday.
Hence, the correct answer is Thursday.

Q. What will be the day on 15 April 2079?


A. Explanation: 2000 years have 0 odd days. 78 years have 19 leap years and 59
normal years. The number of odd days is 19 times 2 + 59 = 97 or 6 odd days.
From January 1 to 15 April, the number of days is 31 + 28 + 31 + 15 =105, this is 0
odd days.
Total odd days is 6, so it is a Saturday
Hence, the correct answer is Saturday.

Q. Which year will have the same calendar as the year 2001?

A. To calculate the repeat year, the sum of the odd days must be 7 or 0.
2001 = 1
2002 = 1
2003 = 1
2004 = 2 (leap year)
2005 = 1
2006 = 1
2007 = 1
The sum of the odd days from 2002 to 2007 = 7,
So 2007, will have the same calendar as 2001.

Q. If 2012, 2nd Feb. was on Wednesday, then in which year it will be repeated?

A. To calculate the repeat year, we have to add 28 in case of leap year.


2012 + 28 = 2040
Hence, the correct answer is 2040.
