Unit Topic: Argumentative Text


Subject: English – Grade 9
Your goal is to write a compelling
argumentative essay using the Claim-
GOAL Evidence-Reasoning (CER) method to
address a relevant Philippine topic or issue.
You are a researcher and writer tasked with
presenting a well-reasoned argument on a
ROLE Philippine issue, backed by strong textual
evidence.
Your audience consists of your classmates,
teacher.(as the evaluator), and others
AUDIENCE interested in Filipino social and political
issues.

You are tasked with writing an argumentative


essay on a relevant Philippine issue, using
SITUATION quotes and other forms of textual evidence to
support your claims. The essay should reflect
a deep understanding of the lesson on quoting
effectively in written arguments.
You will create a creative booklet containing
your argumentative essay. The booklet will
showcase how you organize your writing, use
PRODUCT the CER method (Claim, Evidence, and
Reasoning), and incorporate textual evidence
to defend your argument. Also, you will
include all references for your sources.
Your essay should be written using the CER
(Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) structure. Make
sure to effectively use quoted textual evidence
to support your points. All sources must be
STANDARDS properly cited and referenced in the booklet.
The final product should clearly communicate
its meaning, purpose, and target audience.
The booklet will be evaluated on the strength
of your argument, the organization of your
ideas, and the accuracy of your citations.
