“Configuring firewalls and installation of Antivirus software”
What is firewall……….?
A firewall is a network security device that monitors and controls network traffic to prevent
unauthorized access.
Configuration of firewalls:
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Open Firewall Settings.: Press Windows + S, type Firewall, and select "Windows
Defender Firewall".
2. Turn on the Firewall:
Click "Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off" (left side).
Ensure both Private and Public networks are set to ON.
3. Allow or Block Apps:
Click "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall" (left
Side);
Check or uncheck the boxes for apps you want to allow or block.
4. Custom Rule (Optional for Ports or Programs)
i) Go to Advanced Settings (left side).
ii) Select Inbound Rules or Outbound Rules.
iii) Click New Rule and choose:
o Program: Select a specific program.
o Port: Enter the port number (e.g., 80 for HTTP).
iv) Set to Allow or Block, name the rule, and finish.
5. Apply Changes:
Ensure the rules are active.
Close the firewall settings

Installation of Antivirus Software:

1. Choose an Antivirus Software: Select a reliable antivirus software such as Norton,
McAfee, Kaspersky, Avast, or Bitdefender. free options like Avast free software.
2. Download the Software: Download the appropriate version for your operating system
(Windows, macOS, Linux, etc.) from official website.
3. Run the Installer:
o Locate the downloaded setup file (usually in the Downloads folder(.exe)).
o Double-click on the installer file to start the installation process.
4. Follow the Installation Wizard:
o Read and accept the software license agreement.
o Choose installation options (default settings are usually fine for most users).
o Select the installation folder (optional; the default location is recommended).
5. Activate the Software (if required):
o Enter the activation key or login with your account credentials if you purchased the
software.
6. Perform the First Update:
After installation, allow the software to update its virus definitions to protect against

8. Configure Settings:
