2.1.2 Inspection of the workplace

• Before using the machine, the operator must take precautions to avoid any risk in the
workplace:
- Note the hazardous locations in the working area.
- Note the overhead obstacles, the electrical lines, overhead cranes, cranes, or other
equipment.
- Note on the ground the presence of holes, bumps, tilt, debris, and coatings likely to
hide holes or other dangers.
- Check the ground can support the wheel load and/or outrigger load.
• The machine must only be used in well-ventilated premises.
• The machine must be used with sufficient ambient lighting.
• The platform must not be raised if the machine is on the platform or trailer of a truck, on a
train, a ship or any other mobile or non-stabilised structure.
• Do not operate the machine in hazardous environments unless approved for that purpose
by ATN.
• DO NOT use the machine in presence of electromagnetic fields (radar, high voltage
currents…). This could damage the machine’s electronic components.

2.2 TIPPING HAZARDS

• Never exceed the work platform's load capacity. Distribute the load evenly across the platform
floor.
• Keep the load inside the work platform. Do not suspend a load from any part of the platform or
lifting structure. Do not place a load on the guard rail.
• Check that the ground can support the maximum wheel load and/or outrigger load.
• Do not drive the machine on slopes or tilts exceeding the maximum admissible incline.
• Do not raise the platform or move with the platform on inclines, hilly or loose surfaces. Always
make sure that the machine is on a firm and even surface before raising the work platform or
moving with the platform raised.
Zebra 16 Stab : Always ensure the outrigger pads are in firm contact with the ground before
raising the work platform. Do not use the outriggers on loose irregular or uneven grounds.

• Keep the machine a good distance from holes, bumps, tilt, debris, and coatings likely to hide
holes or other dangers on the ground.
• Do not raise the work platform if the wind speed exceeds 12.5m/s (45km/h).
1NO0060EN-00 Zebra 12 – Zebra 16 23
OPERATOR’S AND SAFETY HANDBOOK

• Do not carry pannels or oversized elements when the machine is used outside: Such elements
increase the windload and reduce the stability of the machine.

2.3 CRUSHING AND COLLISION HAZARDS

• When the machine is moving, keep all

parts of the body inside the platform guard
rail.
• Prevent any obstacles from hitting or
hindering the controls or people onboard
the platform.
• Make sure that you do not lower the
platform onto overhead obstacles. It is
recommended that you bring the
telescope back in before lowering the
platform.
• Warn the other occupants of the platform
before controlling a movement and obtain
their approval where necessary.
• Make sure that non-operating personnel
are kept out of the area where the machine
is working. Warn personnel on the ground
to keep away from under the platform

8.3 HOSES

Each time you start working with the machine, you have to check hoses statement and their
connections. Each hose with a leak, pinch, abrasion or in such of other wear has to be replaced.

1NO0060EN-00 Zebra 12 – Zebra 16 69

OPERATOR’S AND SAFETY HANDBOOK

Damaged hoses have to be replaced exclusively with exactly same characteristics hoses
(length, allowed max pressure, diameter, bend radius, hose fittings).

8.4 WHEELS
CAUTION
Wheel torque must be checked after the first 50
hours of operation and every 3 months or 100 DO NOT USE AN IMPACT WRENCH TO
operating hours thereafter. TIGHTEN THE WHEEL NUTS.

• Criteria for wheels replacement

Damaged rim (deformation or cracks), tire detachment on the rim, snatched stud on
tyres, wear of the tire : >25% of the tire nominal thickness (Z12 : 140mm → 105mm,
Z16 : 150mm → 115mm).

• Wheel replacement
The machine’s stability will be affected if the wheels are not replaced by wheels of identical
characteristics (dimensions, load capacity, flattening under load, disc position, mass…).
The wheel nuts must be torqued and kept at the appropriate torque to prevent the wheels
from becoming loose. The nuts must be tightened with a torque wrench. Excessive torquing
of the nuts will lead to the studs breaking or the thread being deformed.
• Wheel tightening
1- Screw all the nuts on by hand. Do not lubricate the threads.
2- Tighten the nuts turn by turn, respecting the order and the tightening steps indicated
below:

Wheel torque
1st step 2nd step 3rd step
