7 MODULE GUIDELINE

DETERMINATION OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ACTIVITIES AND

LOCATION OF DEPARTMENT

LABWORK SUBSTANCE
Determining the layout of floor production and additional facilities.

LABWORK OBJECTIVES
1. Students are able to analyze the relationship between each process in a factory.
2. Students are able to determine the position of each department in accordance with the
relationship between activity and material flow.
3. Students are able to determine the position of each department according to the number
of floors needed and the number of floors available.

STUDY CASE
CV FRI company has 20 production facilities in the floor production from receiving
until shipping and additional facilities. The company wants to identify the relation between
departments. This was done in order to achieve a good work flow, production lines smoothly,
until the good relations between each facility and minimize any disruption close together
facilities.

LABWORK STEPS
1. Finding out the number of A, E, I, O, U and X in combination with the total
number of pairs departments.

2. Creating relation analysis of production, employee association and

information selected in order to determine the position of each department
in accordance with the activities and the flow of material. The 7th reason is
a negative reason that reduce the total score of the relationship.

4. ARC table is sorted by the number of A, E, I, O, U and X from the largest

to the smallest in accordance with the number previously counted. Enter the
data from the table before this, then sort the total score of the reasons. The
quantity and the color of the relation code based on the result of the combine
table. After the list is sorted, give it color according to the combine table.

decision which location of facility will be fixed. The facilities that can be
consider as “fixed location” are the facilities which have a major effect if
they’re moved, such as change the IN or OUT way of the material TO or FROM
the factory. The coordinate of the facility is determined by the starting from
starting edge of ‘x’ and ‘y’ axis and ended on finish edge of ‘x’ and ‘y’ axis,
the ‘x’ axis starting from the left to the right, and the ‘y’ axis starting from the
top to the down of the edges.
