1.9.2 Angular measuremenit Introduction: vyYyvvVY¥ y = Angular measurement isthe measurement of individual angle of gauges, tools and pars. Angle is defined si the opening between the two fines meet ata point. Ifa angle is divided into 360 parts, each partis called as degree (°) Each degree ly divided into 60 pars and each that partis called minute (°) Each (pied have 60 parts and cach that partis called second (~). ‘An alternate method for defining the angle is based on the relationship between the radius and arc off circle ‘The unit is called radian, and is defined as the angle subtended by an arc of circle of length equal to the radius. The angle @ = | radian in mathematical conversion, 2” * 360° | radian = 360) (2x) = 57.2988 For Angular measurement ‘no absolute standard ‘is required. This is the main difference between linear measurement and angular measurement. Some of the angular measuring instruments ar A) Universal Bevel protractor B) Optical Bevel protractor. C) Angle gauges. D) Sine bars E) Sine centers wriniiriccln.¢) ogle dexxoxs A) UNIVERSAL BEVEL PROTRACTOR: > Itisa simplest instrument used for measuring the angle between the two faces of a ‘component, - It consists of a base plate attached to the main body and an adjustable bladeattached, which in tum attached to a circular plate containing the Vernier scale. > The adjustable blade along with circular plate containing the Vernier seale can rotate freely about thecenter of the main scale engraved on the body of the instrument and can be locked at any desiredposition with the help of clamping knob. “; ter zero Tine, They are marked a. . 4 i visions on either side of the cen as > The Vemier scale has 12 divisions Sei ninesotas : 60minutes of arc. So that each division is 1/12 th of 60 ‘Operation: > Check for zero error. Le. the zero line on the vernier scale will coincides with 90°line on the main scale. Keep the specimen in between the edges of working edge and the blade of the instrument. Fit the reading by using adjustment screws. Note the reading of the main scale which is graduated in degrees. Similarly, note the reading of vernier scale ie. in the glass tube at the right side of zero, the divisions of main scale reading will coincides with division of vernier scale reading, Select Vv the reading of V.S.R in minutes. Now find out the total reading by adding two scale readings we will obtain the required v angle of the component.z > For measuring acute angle. > For checking in inside bevelled face of a ground surface. B) OPTICAL BEVEL PROTRACTOR: > Arecent development of Vernier bevel protector is optical bevel protector. > Inthis instrument, a circular glass plate is divided at 10 minutes intervals throughout the whole 360"are fitted inside the main body. SA small microscope is fitted through which the cirular graduations ean be viewed. The readings retaken against a Vernier scale with the help of a microscope. } With the help of microscope it is possible to read about 2 minutes. ; ‘Adjustable blade Workingedge Locking rut Acute: ‘attachment apa Gueular glass plate ‘Working edge Nain champ: (© ANGLE GAUGES: } These are developed by Dr. Tomlinson in 1939. > They are hardened steel blocks of approximately 75mm long and 16 mm wide which has two Jappedworking faces lying at very precise angle to each other as shown in figure. > As we know that the slip gauges are used to build the linear dimension of the compon angle gauges are also used fo builtup to a required angle. > ‘These angle gauges are available in two sets, Each sets again divided into 3 series: Degrees, ent, the ‘Minutes and seconds. > The first set of angle gauges consists of 12 Degrees: 1°, 3°, 9%, 27° and 41° Minutes: 1°, 3’, 9, 27° and 6”, 18” and 30" AF eed pieces and a square block.Minutes: 1, 3", 9°, 27" and Seconds: 3”, 6”, 18” and 30” a ee e » Figure | shows two gauges with narrow ends together to give an angle which is the sum of the individual angles, Similarly the figure 2 shows the two gauges with narrow ends are : ‘opposed to give an angle which is difference of individual gauge angles. > These gauges are used either in combination with each other or may be subtracted from ‘square block and can set any angle between 0° to 360°, ® Each angle gauge is marked with “<’ or ‘> ‘which indicates the direction of the included angle, > Generally angle gauges are used to measure any given angle and for checking angles greater than 90°, the use of square block is made, > These gauges are widely used in enginccring industries for quick measurement of angles between two surfaces. They have ‘Wringing ‘characteristics, and are calibrated to a high degree of precision. i Problems @ gHoiy He avvougement ah coptes age toulth neok sketches v 0 fo meoae @ iPro © 3h 57% 3n! 4! © gg’qi-ts"” © 54.26 © wor® gla!"
