WELCOME NATURE DETECTIVE!
We LOVE exploring outdoors and going on impromptu walkabouts searching for curious
creatures, their tracks, and yes, their scats too. It's a pretty normal, fun activity for our family.
When our children were younger, they'd be so excited to spot animal traces and investigate who
the signs belonged to.
Our new Aussie Animal Track and Scat Cards will encourage nature detectives to investigate signs
and identify them when out on trails. Use them as a Montessori resource by matching prints and
scats to their Aussie friends.
It’s been a joy connecting with Abigail to create the Australian Animal Track and Scat Montessori
Cards. The cards in this download have been designed in three parts. The first card is a reference
or answer key card, while the second card consists of two parts; the animal, track or scat image
and the name or label.
Cut the cards out, separate the label from the animal card and laminate. You should have three
cards:
1. The animal, track or scat KEY CARD.
2. The animal, track or scat IMAGE CARD.
3. The animal, track or scat LABEL.
The cards can be used in several ways:
• The children are encouraged to connect the label to the correct image and compare their
work to the key card.
• The children can match the animal to the correct track and scat cards.
• Print more than one set and the children can play match memory games.
• Place the laminated key cards on a ring and use them while on walkabouts to identify tracks
and scats to the animal.

Nature Study Australia Forum
I invite you to take a weekly walk through the seasons and observe our unique Australian wildlife
with one of the Australian Nature Study Guides.
Encourage children to explore outdoors with an Australian Nature Study Guide at your side. It
includes all the information you need to make nature study a successful part of your lifestyle.
With all the prep work done for you, there's more time to linger in nature and observe the secret
worlds of bees, butterflies, moths and beetles. Connect with Percy the Platypus, Penelope the
Possum, Gurawang the Bandicoot and other Aussie friends. Then journal your observations in a
field journal or use the notebook pages included with the guide.
