Shade, Shadow and Perspective [ENAR2211]


Course Description:
This course introduces students to perspectives,
shades and shadows drawing techniques that
designers use in order to communicate architectural
ideas. The course consists of two mains components:
1. Perspective drawing
This component trains the students to construct
perspectives based on the two majors
systems of perspective drawing, which include the
one-point perspective system, the two-point
perspective system for exterior and interior scenes.
2. Shades and shadows
This component train them to draw the shades and
shadows on three dimensional and two-dimensional
drawings through different techniques.

Course Objectives and outcomes:


 Enhance the communication skills throughout the use of different types of media
 Recognize the theoretical concepts in creating perspective drawings by practical
applications
 Demonstrate the different types of perspective drawings that are used frequently in
architectural presentation and help in reading and understanding architecture.
 Apply shades and shadows on different types of drawings.

Assessments:
 25% Exercises
 20% Midterm exam
 20% Assignments
 30% Final Exam
 5% Quizzes

Attendance:
A minimum of 80% attendance is essential. Students are expected to attend all sessions. If for
any reason, the student misses a class, the instructor should be informed beforehand or right
after in case of an emergency.
Plagiarism:
This is intentionally failing to give credit to sources used in writing regardless of whether they are
published or unpublished. Plagiarism (which also includes any kind of cheating in exams) is a
disciplinary offense and will be dealt with accordingly).
