Character Backstory Layout (3)
Places of Birth & Description: Mount Crumpit, small mountain village, populated by about 2000
people. (Add a childhood home if different)
Parents & Status: The Grinch (Father; worked as a mountain guide; alive), Clog (Mother, sorceress
supreme of The Emerald Academy; alive). (Please confer with DM for setting-specific factions for
reference)
Pre-Adventuring Life: (Any large events, presented in bullet points, specifically events not related
to life as an adventurer if available, up to the point of becoming an adventurer)
• Raised as a defender of the mountain against northern invaders
• Came face to face with his greatest adversary, Princess Buttercup on the field of battle
• Defeated and fled to his home in shame
• Wished upon a star and was heard by an astral being, who granted him power in exchange
for service
• Left his home on the advice of his patron, with the short-term goal of acquiring a Star Shard
Amulet
Left Behind: (A brief description of the characters investment, what they protect and what they
avoid, presented in bullet points, remember you can go back for this stuff, so make it valuable)
• Misses his parents, who he left on bad terms with, both ashamed of his desertion and
unaware of his pact
• Misses his honour and role in Mount Crumpit’s army
• Doesn’t miss the war
• Left behind the sword given to him by his mother which was enhanced by magic
Class Acquirement: (Reference the skills of the class as well as the description of the class’ origin,
such as studying magic for wizards vs being innately born with magic for sorcerers)
• Studied the lore of the multiverse, learning about various astral entities and their powers as
well as studied the stars, learning the power that they hold.
• Boblin learned how to see the world around him in new ways and absorb information both
from tomes and people.
• His true power came from his pact, as his patron gave him secrets of the world around him,
granting him access to eldritch magic in exchange for greater service.
Strengths & Weaknesses: (self-explanatory, give several in bullet points under sub-headings)
Strengths:
• Knowledge of eldritch lore and magic
• Hard-working and level-headed
• Always noting things down for later reference
• Persuasive
Weaknesses
• Cowardly at times
• Selfish and looks out for himself when under pressure
• Easily manipulated by otherworldly beings
• Would do anything to know more
Goals/Desires/Plans: (Give these in as much detail as you desire but ensure there is a bank of
achievable goals, both long-term and short-term, give in bullet points)
• Wants to find the Star Shard Amulet
• Wants the approval of his patron
• Wants to understand the multiverse
• Wants to know how to kill Princess Buttercup
• Wants to reclaim his honour
• Plans to find a group of adventurers to help him on his travels and is willing to help them in
what they seek, so long as it allows safety in numbers
• Desires to return to his family as a hero of the realm, worthy of respect
Determination & Limits: (Give the full breadth of your characters determination, make sure to give
specific things your character wouldn’t do) Bobert is willing to steal or lie to attain these goals,
however he would never break moral law. Murder and the exploitation of the innocent is where he
crosses the line. He would also never think of returning to the battlefield, as he still fears it.
Temptation: Bobert would fall from grace if he was offered a chance at lore beyond his
comprehension. If someone offered him knowledge beyond what his patron held, he would
undoubtedly fold on one of his limits. He also would fall from grace if forced into a position where
he previously acted cowardly, such as a battlefield.
NPCs
(3-6 individual NPCs who follow the structure below, ensure these NPCs are someone a character
of your status would be connected to, putting ‘The King’ is not an option. Please create a
description of 1 ally, 1 adversary and 1 rival)
GM Hooks
(This section is more loose, more along the lines of suggesting themes and possible adventures that
you want to play in, rather than specific to your character, use bullet points and give a good few)
• Fight aberration monsters
• Acquire Star Shards to enhance amulet’s power
• Grow less cowardly
• Who really is his patron?
• Meet patron during every full moon
• Visit ancient library of unknown knowledge
• etc.
