3. Parents donated fudge for the fund raiser for your classroom. 40 pounds of chocolate fudge sold for $2.15 per pound and vanilla fudge sold for $190. per pound. Your class made $158.20. How many pounds of fudge were sold?

4. One of your friends is heading north for a holiday and the other friend is heading south. If their destinies are 1029 miles apart and one car is traveling at 45 miles per hour and the other car is traveling at 53 miles per hour. How many hours before the two cars pass each other?

5. Dana needs 300 pickets for her colorful picket fence. She wants equal amounts of each of her 4 selected colors. She already has 32 red, 26 green, 9 yellow and no blue. How many more of each color does Dana need to buy? If the bulbs cost 25 cents and you get 20% off if you purchase 50 or more of the same color and 30% off if you purchase 60 or more of one color, how much does Dana need to spend?

6. Excavation for a pool is being done in your backyard. It measures 42ft x 29ft x 8ft. The dirt will be taken away in the truck that holds 4.53ft3 How many truckloads of dirt will be taken away?

7. A magazine ad states that 4 out of 7 doctors recommend Flash toothpaste. If 1400 doctors were surveyed, how many doctors recommended Flash toothpaste?

8. February 2, the temperature at 11 AM was 5F. At 10 PM, it had dropped to 3F. To find the number of degrees the temperature dropped, which equation could you use? Let x be the number of degrees the temperature changed.

12. Dylan made a Kwanzaa flag. He divided the flag into three equal sections. One section was red, one was green, and one was black. When he finished the flag, it measured nine and nine tenths feet long and five and four tenths feet wide. What were the dimensions of each of the three sections?

13. Nicole and Connor were going with their parents to make a visual inspection of the building site for their new house. They left at 7:47 a.m. and drove straight to the building site. It was 9:23 a.m. when they arrived. Their father drove at an average speed of fifty-one miles per hour the whole way. To the nearest mile, how far away is the building site?

14. Anna found a recipe for a Mothering Cake in an old book at the library. In England during the 1600s, servants often made a Mothering Cake when they were allowed to visit their mothers on Mothering Sunday. The recipe for one small cake calls for one and one-fourth cups of sugar. Anna would like to make three cakes for Mother's Day. How many cups of sugar will she need to make all of the cakes?

15. Kaitlyn rented a bike to ride around a lake with a perimeter of twenty-one kilometers (KM) in northern Japan. Kaitlyn picked up the bike at 9:41 a.m. and returned it at 2:22 p.m. The bike shop charged a flat hourly rate of 150 yen. Any rental period less than a full hour was charged for an hour. How much did she pay?

16. Clarence is driving from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, which is 80 miles. When he starts the trip, he is driving the speed limit of 60 miles per hour. For part of the trip, however, construction makes him slow down to 25 miles per hour. The total trip took him 2 hours. A. 17. Suppose you are preparing snack mix. You want the total protein from peanuts and granola to equal 28 grams. Peanuts

have 7 grams of protein per ounce, and granola has 3 grams of protein per ounce. A. Write an equation for the protein content of your mix.

B. If your mix must end up being 12 ounces, write an equation for the total number of ounces your mix will contain.

18. The sophomore class holds a car wash to raise money. A local merchant donates all of the supplies. A wash costs $5 per car and $6.50 per truck. In one day there were 50 vehicles washed in all. The cash collected for all vehicles washed totaled $51.00. a. Write an equation representing the total number of cars (c) and trucks (t) washed.

b. Write an equation for the total amount of money collected for the cars (c) and trucks(t).

c. Determine the number of cars and number of trucks washed. Show and explain how you found the answer.

3. Mike just finished a 6 hour drive from New Orleans to Memphis, and wants to analyze his gas usage. During the first hour of his drive, he used 5 gallons of gas. He then used 2 gallons per hour for the next two hours. He stops and rests for the next hour. Then, he drives for the last 3 hours, using the same amount of gas per hour as he used during the first hour of the drive. A. Sketch a graph to show Mikes gasoline usage over the 6 hours. Be sure to appropriately label each axis.

B. Over the entire trip, what was the average rate of gallons of gasoline used per hour?
