The Clock of Eternity

As Eliot worked on the watch late into the night, memories surfaced. Decades ago, he had been
part of a secret guild of clockmakers tasked with maintaining the balance of time. They created
devices like this to nudge history along its intended path, but the guild disbanded after a tragic
experiment went awry. Eliot had vowed never to work on such mechanisms again.

But this watch was different. Its core was fractured, leaking energy that threatened to unravel the
fabric of time. He knew repairing it was dangerous, but leaving it broken was worse.

Over the next few days, Eliot poured all his skill into the task. The gears were microscopic, the
mechanism so complex it seemed alive. The woman stayed in the village, watching him work
with an intensity that made him uneasy.

The Fracture in Time

On the fifth day, the watch was restored. Its carvings glowed faintly, and the hum of its
mechanism was steady. As Eliot handed it back to the woman, she hesitated.

“Do you know what this does?” she asked.

“I can guess,” Eliot said. “It manipulates time. But why is it so important?”

The woman’s gaze softened. “It’s not just any watch. It’s the Clock of Eternity. It keeps the
timeline intact. Without it, chaos would reign—people vanishing, history rewriting itself.
Someone tried to destroy it, and now I must return it to the vault where it belongs.”

Before Eliot could respond, the air around them shimmered. A man in a black suit stepped
through the distortion, his eyes cold and calculating.

“You’ve done well, Eliot,” the man said. “Now hand over the clock.”

The Choice

The woman stepped back, clutching the watch. “He’s one of them,” she whispered. “The ones
who want to control time for their gain.”

Eliot looked between them, his mind racing. If he gave the clock to the man, he might be spared.
But if he sided with the woman, he could protect the timeline—but at great personal risk.
Taking a deep breath, Eliot made his choice. With a swift motion, he pulled the woman behind
him and turned to face the man.

“Leave,” Eliot said, his voice firm. “You won’t get the clock from me.”

The man’s expression darkened. “You’ll regret this.”

With a snap of his fingers, he vanished into the shimmering air.

A New Guardian

The woman exhaled in relief. “Thank you,” she said. “But this isn’t over. He’ll come back, and
others will too.”

Eliot nodded. “Then I’ll be ready.”

Together, they devised a plan to hide the clock, embedding it within one of Eliot’s larger
creations—a grand clock tower in the village square. Its ticking would mask the clock’s energy
signature, keeping it hidden from those who sought to misuse it.

As the months passed, the villagers marveled at the new clock tower, unaware of its true
purpose. And Eliot returned to his shop, his days once again filled with the gentle hum of gears
and the steady ticking of time.

But every evening, as he locked up, he would glance at the tower and smile, knowing he had
become more than a clockmaker—he was now a guardian of time itself.
