End of Year Examinations for Grades 8-11

This letter serves to outline the arrangements for the end of year examinations. The overall timetable for Grades
8-11 is available at the link below. Additionally, the specific invigilation timetable containing venues and times is
also available for your perusal.

Final End-of-year assessment timetable Venues and times for assessments.xlsx

The Grade 10 boys are well into their examinations before leaving for the Nyamezela hike and will write two
examinations upon their return. The Grade 11 boys write their first examination on Wednesday, 30 October with
the Grade 8 and 9 boys starting their examinations on Monday 4 November. The Grade 8 and Grade 9 boys start
with a few days of practice examinations to get them used to the examination procedure and prepare them for
the important examinations to follow.

The final examinations end for all grades on Friday 22 November. Please note that all classroom teaching
ceases once exams start. Boys are not expected to be at school on days they do not write. In keeping with
departmental regulations, all learners are required to write these examinations at school. If your son is ill on the
day of an examination, be sure to email me and his tutor as soon as possible. A doctor’s note should follow soon
after so that we can keep these and attach them to our final schedules before submission to the department for
verification.

The examinations start at 08h00 every morning with any afternoon exams generally beginning an hour after the
end of the morning session. Please arrange transport for your boys at least 30 minutes after the scheduled end
of the examination as there can be circumstances beyond our control which delay the boys’ exit from the
examination venue.

The procedures for managing an efficient examination period are the same as they were in June. It is important
that your son adheres to the following:

Headmaster: Mr D. Scheepers B.A. (US), M.Ed. (Free State), M.B.A. (Unisa)

• Arrive punctually each day and be seated in the venue 20 minutes before the starting time.
• Cell phones must be switched off and placed on the desk at the front of the room.
• No papers, notes, summaries, or texts of any kind may be on their person.
• Smart watches may not be worn.
• All candidates who have previously been informed that they qualify for concessions based on Ed Psych
reports will be granted said concessions e.g. extra time, scribe, and spelling dispensations.

The sports programme comes to an end in the week of 28 October to 02 November which will allow the boys to
fully focus on these vital examinations.

Good luck with your son’s preparations. Please contact me if you have any queries.

Kind regards,

Graham James
Acting Vice-Principal: Academics

have scrutinised the timetable to ensure completeness and fair distribution of examinations.
