Universal set; Concepts of Subset, Proper subset, Equality and Order of sets.

2. Lecturer: Dr. B. S. Ogundare.


Contents: Set Theory - Set Operations: Union, Intersection, Difference, Complement, Sym-
metric difference; Algebra of sets: Idempotent, Commutative, Associative, Distributive, Identity,
De-Morgans, Duality, and Complement laws; Venn diagram; Cartesian product of set. Functions:
domain and range of functions, Injective, surjective and bijective maps; Product of functions.

3. Lecturer: Dr. O. P. Layeni


Contents: Operations with Real Numbers: Natural numbers, Integers, Rational numbers, Ir-
rational numbers, Real numbers, Operations with real numbers: addition, subtraction, multiplica-
tion and division. Complex numbers: Introduction, Rules for manipulating complex numbers;
Geometric representation of complex numbers, Modulus and Argument of complex numbers; and
Polar form of complex numbers. Equations in one variable - Polynomial equations. Special
quadratic equations, Equations involving square roots.

4. Lecturer: Dr. S. O. Akindeinde


Contents: Remainder and Factor theorems. Application of factor theorem to symmetri-
cal expressions; Equations in two variables (simultaneous equations): one linear and one
quadratic equations, two quadratic equations etc. Surds: Introduction, Square root of surds.
Indices and Logarithm: Laws of indices and logarithm, and their applications; Indicial Equa-
tions: consider all cases.

5. Lecturer: Dr. A. T. Ademola


Contents: Inequalities - Rules governing inequalities, Solution to inequality problems, Inequal-
ity of means. Theory of Quadratic Functions and Equations: - Quadratic functions and
equations, Nature of roots of quadratic equations, Relation between roots and coefficients of
quadratic equations, Finding quadratic equations from given roots, Conditions for two quadratic
equations to have a common root, Simple proofs relating the coefficients of quadratic equation
via the roots, Maximum/Mimimum value of quadratic functions, Finding the limit between which
(ax2 + bx + c)/(dx2 + ex + f ) lies, x ∈ R.

6. Lecturer: Mrs. S. O. Ezeah


Contents: Partial Fractions: Consider all the known cases; Sequence and Series - Infinite
and finite sequences, Series, Arithmetic sequence and series, Arithmetic Mean (A.M.); Finite geo-
metric sequence and series, Geometric Mean (G.M.), Infinite geometric series, Harmonic sequence,
Arithmetico-geometrical sequence and series, Series of the power of the first n natural numbers.

7. Lecturer: Mr. E. O. Ajoge


Contents: Permutations and Combination: - Definitions of Permutation and Combination,
formula for nP r, nCr; Permutation and Combination with restrictions on some of the objects,
Permutation in which objects may be repeated, Circular Permutation; Combination when some
of the objects are alike; Elementary examples in the use of induction; Binomial theorem and
its proof for positive integral index, The use of the expansion (1 + x)n , where n is fractional or
negative; Approximation using Binomial theorem.

8. Lecturer: Dr. A. J. Saka


Contents: Matrices - Definition of m by n matrices 1 ≤ m, n ≤ 3, Examples; Addition of

Matrices, Matrix multiplication, Determinant of Matrices and its properties, Cramer’s rule for
solution of linear equations, Inverse of a matrix.

9. Lecturer: Dr. A. A. Olosunde


Contents: Matrices - Application of inverse of Matrix for solving simple linear equations; Con-
sistence and linear dependence,
