Queen
Elizabeth \\
Her full title as queen was:
Elizabeth the Second, by the
Grace of God, of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland, and of her
other Realms and Territories
Queen, Head of the
Commonwealth, Defender of
the Faith.
Early Life and
Childhood
Despite her royal status, Elizabeth had a relatively
sheltered childhood. Her life changed dramatically
in 1936, when her grandfather, King George V, died,
and her uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated the throne
later that year to marry Wallis Simpson. This
unexpected event made her father, Prince Albert,
the new king (George VI), and Elizabeth became the
heir presumptive at the age of 10.
The couple had four children:
1. Prince Charles (1948) – now
King Charles III.
2. Princess Anne (1950).
3. Prince Andrew (1960).
4. Prince Edward (1964).
