1. Concept:
○ This model simulates an automatic security door where the
movement of the door is controlled by a DC motor. The motor drives
a gear rack to slide the door open or closed.
○ It showcases how small-scale automation can be implemented in
real-world scenarios like security gates, elevators, or smart doors.
2. How It Works:
○ DC Motor and Gear Rack: The motor rotates, driving a
rack-and-pinion mechanism. The rotational motion of the motor is
converted into linear motion, which moves the door along a track.
○ Control Mechanism: The motor can be controlled manually using a
switch or a button. In advanced setups, sensors can be used to
automate the system.
○ Track and Frame: The door slides along a predefined path, guided
by the track and supported by the frame.
3. Applications:
○ Educational Tool: Ideal for teaching automation and the
rack-and-pinion mechanism.
○ Prototype for Automation Systems: A simple version of
automated gates and doors.
○ DIY Project: Fun and engaging for hobbyists and beginners
interested in robotics and mechanics.

Equipment/Materials Required

1. DC Motor – For driving the gear system.

2. Rack-and-Pinion Gear – Converts rotational motion into linear motion to
slide the door.
3. Door Panel – Made from lightweight material (e.g., cardboard, acrylic, or
plastic) for smooth movement.
4. Baseboard – To provide a sturdy foundation for the setup.
5. Wooden or Cardboard Frame – Acts as the door frame, holding the
moving parts in place.
6. Switch/Button – To control the motor's operation (on/off or directional
movement).
7. Battery Pack – To power the DC motor.
8. Wires – For connecting the motor to the battery and switch.
9. Glue Gun/Adhesive – For securing components in place.
10. Decorative Elements – Optional, for labeling and making the model
visually appealing.
