ASSIGNMENT I Date of Assignment 2 September 2024

Sub: Air & Noise Pollution Sub Code: EN 512

Last date of submission: 09/09/24 Max Marks : 20

Q.1 Carbon monoxide is present in standard atmospheric air at a 03

concentration of 50 ppm. Compute yp (volume/volume conc), ρp
(mass-volume conc), and ωp ( mass /mass conc) values for the
CO conc in the atmosphere.
Q. 2 CPCB standards for SO2, NO2 and CO for sensitive areas and 05
Industrial & Residential areas ( exposure limits at atmospheric
pressure and 25oC) are given below:
Parameter Unit Sensitive Residential/Industrial Average
area
SO2 3 20 50 Annual
µg/m
NO2 3 30 40 Annual
µg/m
CO mg/ 02 02 8 hrs
3
m
Convert these exposure limits into ppm.
Q.3 An SO2 concentration is given as 830 μg/m3 at 25°C and 1 atm. 03
Express this concentration in parts per million (ppm).
Q.4 The exhaust from a 2008 Honda contains 1.5% by volume of carbon 03
monoxide. Compute the concentration of CO in milligrams/m3 at
25°C and 1 atm of pressure.
Q.5 Carbon Monoxide concentration at 90°C and 6 atm is 90 μg/m 3 . 03
Express this concentration in ppm.
Q. 6 An exhaust gas containing 3.2 percent by volume SO 2 is released at 03
25°C and 1 atm. Compute the concentration in mg/m3 .
