1/ Introduction

Overview
neoMatch is one of Inèdit Software’s programs that calculates the Lab deviation values between prints.

The main uses for neoMatch are:

• Calibrate Color Libraries. From measurements obtained with the spectrophotometer X-Rite i1Pro (or
other CVS imported references), this software generates Lab values of your Color libraries, or other
standard ones like Pantone®. When printing, neoMatch calculates the difference of the Lab values and
automatically proposes modified references to achieve equal colors. This trial-and-error process produces
most accurate results within a profile's gamut generated in neoStampa, in 2 or 3 times maximum. It also
offers information about colors that will never have a precise printed reproduction.
• Delta Checker. It grants the possibility of printing a predetermined combination of colors -although a
customized selection is also a choice-, to check whether a calibration is done correctly. DeltaE is a value
that indicates the degree of deviation between two readings. This tool is also used to know if a calibration
serves for different media. Another function of the DeltaChecker is to control finishing processes such as
washing or steaming. The measurements provided before and after each process allow to detect those
areas where there might be imperfections.
• Generate New Libraries within a profile. The program advances a series of parameters to generate a
color library, which include all the colors from an RGB profile. 10,000 colors can be produced in 5 seconds.

New features
This version of neoMatch provides the following new features:

• Import neoCatalog colors notification

Now you get notified of imported colors when import from neoCatalog

2/ Installation and Activation

Installation
The process of neoMatch installation is very fast and easy. You may obtain the zipped installation file when
purchasing the software, and receive it in an USB drive, or downloading it from Inèdit’s website:
http://www.inedit.com/en/download/neomatch_mac_os_x

Installing neoMatch requires logging into the computer with an account that has Administrator rights. To
install neoMatch from a download:
• Download neoMatch according to the directions you received.
• Double-click on the downloaded file to begin the installation.
• By default, the program directories are /Applications or /Users/Home/Applications. Drag and drop
the .app file in one of the directories. To uninstall neoMatch go the directory and remove the . app file.

Updating neoMatch
To update your version of neoMatch, open the program and choose the neoMatch | Check for Updates…

Activation
neoMatch supports two options of activation: USB protection (dongle) and UUID (Universally unique
identifier).

USB protection (dongle)

The dongle is a hardware device that you can connect to a computer's parallel or
USB port. neoMatch is authorized to run on that computer as long as the dongle
remains connected. This is useful if you frequently need to use neoTextil on
different computers and do not want to activate the program on each of them.

This dongle will activate the program when provided an .XDAT file, or the activation code is introduced in the
required field. Place the USB protection in an USB port, and proceed to open neoMatch.

Tip: It is recommended not to connect the dongle to your computer until after installing neoMatch. If
the dongle was connected before or during installation, you should restart your computer to receive
proper authorization.

UUID format
Activations with UUID format do not require to plug-in any hardware devices. It will use an unique identifier
number that will activate the program when provided an .XDAT file, or the activation code is introduced in
the required field.

The Activation process is a one-time action. Plug in the dongle and run neoMatch.

You will access the Activation dialog. It recognizes

the number of dongle (65xxxxxxx), which is
shown in the Personal Code field.

Using UUID activation it will show the unique

identifier number of 10 digits.

Next, type your personal data with an user and

company name on the given fields. This
information is merely for your own record and has
no purpose in the activation process:

neoMatch - User Manual 8 of 44

!
Finally, enter the Activation code, which will be loaded by default with the .xdat file,
that Inèdit will also provide you via email or in an USB memory, together with the
installer and documentations.

Select the field Activation Code, press on the

Load… button and choose the .xdat file. The
activation will process automatically.
Optionally, if you have received the activation code
you can type or copy-paste the code and press the
Register button.

With successful activation, neoMatch opens with an Untitled job:

Use the options in this dialog box to define if and how neoMatch may manage measurements done with
spectrophotometer.

neoMatch DeltaE Preferences

From menu neoMatch | Preferences… you will reach the preferences box.

This preference settings is for the minimum and

maximum Delta value E in the color matching process.
We recommend maximum of DelatE 3.

The Render Method is using the default rendering intent methods.

About Delta E
From menu Measure | Delta E | … you will find 3 types of Delta E.
Delta E is a metric for understanding how the human eye perceives color
difference.

On a typical scale, the Delta E value will range from 0 to 100.

Delta E Perception

<= 1.0 Not perceptible by the human eye.

1-2 Perceptible through close observation.

2 - 10 Perceptible at a glance.

11 - 49 Colors are more similar than opposed.

100 Colors are totally opposed

It is possible to get a Delta E value below 1.0 for two colors that look different. This is the case with CIE76 and
CIE94 formulas, in which saturation is either not considered, or not weighted properly.

Because of inconsistencies between the three algorithms, the exact meaning of Delta E changes slightly
depending on which formula is used. Think of Delta E less as a definitive answer, and instead of as a helpful
metric to apply to a specific case.

Measurement Settings
From menu Measure | Measurement Settings you will reach
the Settings, where you can set up different setups for
measurements.

Illuminant is the theoretical source of visible light with a profile. neoMatch provides
the standard types. By default is used D50 and D65 .

Observer gives you two standard options, 2˚ or 10˚ and can be matched to the
illuminants.

Mode gives you options to choose the mode corresponding to your media and
spectrophotometer.
Spot is to measure patch by patch. Scan is to measure through lines.

Enable or disable support for spectrophotometer X-Rite i1 pro Zebra Ruler.

Scan Count is used when the number of patches to read in the printouts matches with the Scan Count.
The number can be changed during the matching process.

Average number allows you to set measurements when measuring one color with the spectrophotometer
matching process. The number can be changed during the matching process.

Calibrate will calibrate the spectrophotometer with its white calibration plate. Any changes in the color
matching process requires a new calibration of the spectrophotometer.

4/ Color Libraries

Calibration of Color Libraries

The process we are going to describe next is a practical example of how to match color references from color
libraries with the printed results, obtained with a particular profile, media, inks or printer.

As seen, when opening neoMatch, an untitled job window opens. Also, any new job can be opened, imported
and saved from the File option on the top menu:

Tip: It is always recommended to save documents as we move along. Used format in neoMatch is .mtx.

Import colors
To load a selection of colors you want to check (A) or the color library from .CSV text file (B), you can either
import them, or you can load them by measuring them directly from their support.

(A) Measure Colors with device

To measure the colors, you will have to connect X-Rite i1 pro Spectrophotometer. Go to Measure |
Measurement Settings, make advanced settings in Illuminant , Observer and Mode, and finally calibrate
the device with its calibration white plate.

When the connection with the device and calibration is done

correctly, a dialog will pop up:

When the connection with the device and calibration is NOT

done correctly, a dialog will pop up too. Proceed to repeat the
connection and calibration, until the calibration succeeds:

neoMatch - User Manual 20 of 44

!
Select the new job window, place the spectrophotometer over the color reference that you want to match
and then measure the color. You can carry on measuring the color(s) without stopping. Each measured
color will be listed in the new job. Afterwards, you can name your colors on the list.

(B) Import Colors from CSV

To import a color library from a .CSV text file, click on the left top wheel or from
File menu.

Choose the color library in the form of .CSV file and confirm
with Open:

Note: Bear in mind to use the CSV ("Comma Separated

Value") file format to import the colors.

neoMatch - User Manual 21 of 44

!
After the importation, the colors are listed orderly in your new job:

(C) Import neoCatalog Color Libraries

Open a new job. window.
From File | Import from
neoCatalog option you
can select the color
libraries.

Warning:
Only CIELab color
libraries can be
imported. neoCatalog’s
RGB color libraries are
not supported to
import in neoMatch!

The libraries will be imported in the new job window.

neoMatch - User Manual 22 of 44

!

Select ICC Profile

As mentioned before, you need to insert the ICC profile
to match the colors with the color space of the profile.

If you forget to include an ICC profile to the files, a

notice will pop-up. Press OK to continue.

And proceed to include the ICC profile.

Export files
In the color matching process we’re going to show up to 3 trials. This is to reach the best improved color with
the colors we have imported. Sometimes though, some colors may increase their dE instead of getting it
reduced, and therefore the color match would become less accurate.

Tip: In case of measured colors, the first step is to export the lab values
references as text file in .CSV format, to keep the starting point of the
color matching.

In order to export such colors using a specific Profile, media, and inks in your
printer, which we will read or measure later on, press the References TIFF
button or from File menu:

New dialog with the Print Layout will be shown. The parameters of the print layout can be modified:

• Number of Columns or Rows

• Size of the patches
• Resolution of the Print
• Strip Lines between the
patches
๏ Black

• Inclusion of Names or Values of
the colors

• Additional exportation file in

Lab Format

• Additional exportation file in CIT3 Format (to read measurements from other spectrophotometers
which aren’t supported by neoMatch)

neoMatch - User Manual 23 of 44

!
Modified parameters are shown in the next image, as example:

• 6 columns
• 1.5 cm patch size
• Show names
• 150 dpi
• Export in Lab Format
• Stripe lines Black

Press Export to save the TIFF image file, to print with your printer.

In both TIFF files the statistics and color conception quality are included.

Measure files
Make sure to open Measurement Settings to select the required options and calibrate X-Rite i1 pro
spectrophotometer. It is important to verify that the number of patches to read matches the Scan Count, as
seen in the example 6 columns.

Once your .TIFF file is printed, proceed to read the patches with the
spectrophotometer. Press the Measure icon and the “reading” window will
pop up. If the window doesn’t open automatically, because neoMatch was
closed between the steps exporting and measuring, load the .ref text format
file, which is exported together with the TIFF file.

The reading window opens indicating the columns and color names:

neoMatch - User Manual 25 of 44

Proceed to read the patches in rows, from first to last, in scan or spot mode. Start and stop to measure from
white media. The next patch to scan will be indicated automatically, until the reading is finished:

a) first row, measure from left to right b) second row, measure from left to right

When the process is finished, another dialog

indicates you so:

With the next window the first part of the process is over, as we see what are the different values between
your Color Library references and those with their actual print:

neoMatch - User Manual 26 of 44

!
DeltaE values show the deviation between references. The smaller
the DeltaE Value is, the closer is to the colors which have been read.
Although this DE value can be set in the program’s Preferences, by
default, a difference of 3 is understood as acceptable, and further
than that is not. This is why we see some of the references with a
warning symbol, as they are over 3.

On the right of the window we can compare the differences in the

Lab values of references, print and measurements of the color.

Improve colors
neoMatch will calculate an improved version of the measured colors, taking
into account all the values. We will print this new version with improved
colors clicking on the Improved TIFF button:

Tip: For your record, we recommend you to export the improved lab values references as text file
in .CSV format with Improved Lab button.

The next print layout is shown, with colors over the maximum DeltaE in red, and we will follow the same
exportation process that we have described previously:

neoMatch - User Manual 27 of 44

!
A document will be generated, which we are asked
to save in our computer. It is highly recommended to
“order” this document, in case we wish to make a
second DeltaE improvement.

After the printing we will follow the same reading process that we have described previously. Remember to
calibrate the spectrophotometer before you start to measure. Just as before, new measurements are
generated, shown in the next window:

Repeating the steps of printing and measuring for two more times, we finally have the results of 3 improved
trials.

neoMatch - User Manual 28 of 44

!
Moving through the references one by one, we see which ones have improved and which ones have not. If
the resulting measurements had been generally improved, we could do a fourth trial. If the bad references
didn’t improve, therefore it is not worth performing a fourth trial.

At the bottom right part of the job there is the

Statistics dialog, which groups the reading results
in color conception qualities and the average of
measurements.

Best colors
The last step in this process is to export the .CSV file with the Best Lab
references, or Best RGB references, keep a record of the final and best
values:

With buttons Best TIFF and Report you can export the print files with the best colors, or just the not
improved colors.

Best TIFF Report

neoMatch - User Manual 29 of 44

!
neoMatch will choose and export the best values of all
measurements to give the best final result. This new

creation of new colorways.

Tip: During and at the end of the matching process, the colors can be printed or saved as PDFs from File |
Print… with limited information, using any desktop printer.

Publish Colors
Using neoCatalog connection linked with neoMatch the creation and modifications on colors can be published
to neoCatalog. This feature comes available only when a color is selected in colors list.

Select one color and go to Edit | Publish Color… to open

the Publish Colors dialog.

The dialog opens showing the color and its information. If not linked
to neoCatalog yet, here is the option to do it, following the steps in
section Link to neoCatalog in this document.

If the connection to neoCatalog was established before, you will see

similar colors in neoCatalog listed below.

neoMatch will search for similar colors with dE 3 by default. Anyway,
you can increase dE to max 10 to filter more colors. In the list you
can see the results found in all neoCatalog color libraries. Next to the
slider you can see the mount total of filtered colors.

In the tab Color Library you are able to select neoCatalog’s color
library where you want to publish the color.

After all filter and selection, click on button Publish to

In order to export such colors using a specific Profile, media, and inks in your
printer, which we will read or measure later on, press the References TIFF
button or from File menu:

New dialog with the Print Layout will be shown. The print layout parameters can be modified:

• Number of Columns or Rows

• Size of the patches
• Resolution of the Print
• Strip Lines between the patches

๏ White

๏ Double
• Inclusion of Names or Values of the colors

• Additional exportation file in Lab Format

• Additional exportation file in CIT3 Format (to read measurements from other spectrophotometers
which aren’t supported by neoMatch)

Press Export to save the TIFF image file, to print with your printer.

The exported TIFF image file (rotated view) is showing an order of colors among the image file:

In the TIFF file, the statistics and color conception

quality are included (cropped view).

Measure files
Make sure to open Measurement Settings to select the required
options and calibrate X-Rite i1 pro spectrophotometer. It is important to
verify that the number of patches to read matches the Scan Count, as
seen in the example 11 columns.

Once your .TIFF file is printed, proceed to read the patches with the
spectrophotometer. Select the first color in the colors list and proceed to
read the patches in rows, from first to last, in scan or spot mode. Start
and stop to measure from white media.

The measured colors will be added automatically to the corresponding color in the color library:

DeltaE values show the deviation between references. The smaller a DeltaE Value is, the closer is to the color
which has been read. Although this value can be set in the program’s Preferences, by default, a difference of 3
is understood as acceptable, and further than that is not. This is why we see some of the references with a
warning symbol, as they are over the maximum 3. On the right of the window we can compare the differences
in the Lab values of references, print and measurements of the color.

Note: As seen before, neoMatch can calculate an improved version of the measured colors taking all the
values into account. You can forward to print this new version with improved colors clicking on the
Improved TIFF button, and matching the colors as described in section Improve colors of chapter Color
Libraries. Or you can erase the colors with Delta E higher than 3 from the library list, and work without
them.

Best colors
The last step in this process is to export the .CSV file with the Best Lab
references, or Best RGB references, keep a record of the final and best
values:

Those color references can be used now for the creation of new colorways.

7/ ICC Proof

Proof All
neoMatch is defined to be able to check measured or imported colors in the ICC profile without printing. The
tool Proof All will proof the matching between your selected ICC profile and the colors.

In case you have one job window with measured or loaded colors open, and the ICC Profile is inserted:

From Edit | Proof All you can activate the function, and neoMatch will calculate the difference in Delta E
between the inserted values and the ICC profile.

8/ Support for Inedit’s software solutions

Export Color Libraries

neoMatch supports the exportation for Inedit`s software solutions neoCatalog and neoColorBox. Those
exported color libraries can be used for coloring multichannel designs in the applications. In general, the color
libraries in .CSV format are used to import them to neoTextil Colorations.

From File menu you can export the modified and improved color libraries:

To learn how to import and use color libraries, refer to the application’s user and admin manual. Please visit
this site for more information about its operating: http://www.inedit.com.
