Definition
 Measurement is a process of gathering information

from the physical world and comparing this

information with agreed standards.

 Measurement is carried out with instruments that are
designed and manufactured to fulfill given
specifications.
 Instruments are developed for measuring the
conditions of physical variables and for converting
them into symbolic output forms so that we can
interpret and understand the nature of these physical
variables.
Measure elements
 In any measuring process the following elements must
be available
 The measured quantity
 The physical value wont to be defined, length, mass,
voltage, current, ect.
 The unit of measure
 The standard reference for the measurement.
 The measuring device
 this gives an output that is a function of the measured
(the input applied to it).
Measurement Importance
 The use in regulating trade, applying instruments that
measure physical quantities such as length, volume
and mass in terms of standard units.

 Monitoring functions.

 Use as part of automatic feedback control systems

The measuring device
 Instruments can classified according to the following:
 The measured value.
 The result display method.
 Analog devices.
 Digital devices.
 Comparison devices.
 Activity.
 Active.
 Passive
