1. In a commercial bank, customers may withdraw cash through one of the two tellers at the
counter. On average, one teller takes 3 minutes while the other takes 5 minutes to serve a
customer. If the two tellers start to serve the customers at the same time, find the shortest
time it takes to serve 200 customers.
2. The size of an interior angle of a regular polygon is 144. Find the number of sides of the
polygon and hence the sum of its interior angles.
3. A ship sails 22km from P on a bearing of 045 to R. From R, it sails a further 30km on a
bearing of 095 to arrive at Q. Calculate the area bounded by P, R and Q in km 2.
4a). Betty and Joan entered into a business partnership in which they contributed sh 320 000
and sh 400 000 every year respectively. After one year, Kevin joined the business and
contributed sh 240 000.
(a) Calculate the ratio of their investment after 3 years of business. (3marks)
b). It was agreed that 30% of the profits after 3 years be used to cater for the costs of running the
business, while the remaining would be shared proportionally. Calculate each persons share, if
the pro fit made after 3 years was sh 561 000. (4 marks)
c) If each of them re-invested their shares back in the business, find their new individual
investments at the beginning of the fourth year. (3mks)
5. The ratio of the exterior angle to the interior angle of a regular polygon is 1:3. Determine
the number of triangles that can be formed from the polygon (4 marks)
6. A trader bought 360 trays of eggs at Ksh. 450 per tray. During transportation 15% of the
eggs broke. How much must she sell the remaining eggs per dozen in order to make a
profit of 27.5%? (3 marks)
7. Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct a triangle ABC in which AB = 6 cm,
BC=10 cm and angle ABC=37.50. Drop a perpendicular from C to cut BA produced at D.
Hence, calculate the area of the triangle (4 marks)
8. The length of three wires are 36 m, 48 m and 108 m. Pieces of wire of equal lengths were
cut from the three wires, calculate the least number of pieces obtained.
9. In a class of 43 students there are 5 girls more than boys. Every boy pays ksh.2,400
uniform and every girl pays ksh.3,000. How much is paid for uniform in this class.
10. . Three years ago, Juma was three times as old as Ali, in two years’ time, the sum of their
ages will be 62. Determine their present ages.
11. . A man spent 1/9 of his salary on food and 1/4 of the remainder in electricity and water
bills. He paid fees with 20% of his salary and invested 16% of what was left into a business.
After taking a game drive on which he spent Ksh.2000, he saved Ksh.5350. Calculate;
a) His total monthly earnings. (4marks)
12. A shopkeeper went to a wholesaler to purchase towels, bedsheets and blankets at Kshs.
120, 156 and 168 respectively. She carried the least amount to purchase an exact number
of each item. How many of each type did he buy? (3marks)
13. When a number is divided into by 8,9, and 6 the remainders are 7, 8 and 5 respectively.
Find the number.
14. . A square room is covered by a number of whole rectangular slabs of sides 60cm by 42 cm.
Calculate the least possible area of the room in square metres. (3 marks)
15. The interior angles of an irregular polygon are xo ( x +10)o, (x-10)o,(2x -90)o and (2x – 40)o
Determine the size of the smallest angle.
16. The marked price of a radio is sh.12000. A trader sold it to a customer at 10% discount. If
the trader still made a profit of 25% on the cost price, what was its cost price?
17. The cost of providing a commodity consists of transport, labour and raw material in the
ratio 8:4:12 respectively. If the transport cost increases by 12% labour cost 18% and raw
materials by 40%, find the percentage increase of producing the new commodity.
18. In a fund-raising committee of 45 people, the ratio of men to women is 7: 2. Find the
number of women required to join the existing committee so that the ratio of men to
women is changed to 5: 4. (3marks)
19. The ratio of Eunice’s cows to goats is 5:4. On a certain market day he sold a 14goats and
15 of the cows. If she had sold 5 more animals from the herd only 2/3 of the original
number could have been left. How many animals were there before the sale? (3marks)
20. The ratio of Juma’s and Akinyi’s earnings was 5:3. Juma’s earnings rose to Ksh.8,400 after
an increase of 12%. Calculate the percentage increase in Akinyi’s earnings given that the
sum of their earnings was Ksh.14,100 (6 marks).
21. Mary has 21 coins whose total value is Kshs.72. There are twice as many five shillings coins
as there are ten shillings coins. The rest are one shillings coins. Find the number of ten
shillings coins that Mary has. ( 4 marks)
22. The ratio between the sum of interior angles for two regular polygons A and B is 4:5. The
number of sides of B is more than the number of sides of A by 1. Identify the polygon

26. . Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct a trapezium ABCD in which AB = 5
cm, AD = 6 cm, DC = 10 cm, BAD = 105 and AB is parallel to DC. Draw a perpendicular
from B to DC hence measure the height of the trapezium. (4 marks)
27. The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 13. If the digit is reversed the number
decreases by 27. Find the number. (3 marks)
28. Four interior angles of an irregular polygon are 1630, 1300, 1370 and 1650 while the rest
are 1330 each. Find the number of sides of polygon. (3 marks)
29. . A supermarket has 18 apples, 30 oranges and 54 mangoes. The fruits are to be arranged
in rows such that each row contains the same number of fruits of each kind. Calculate the
total number of fruits in each row for which the number of rows used is maximum.
30. A square room is covered by a number of whole rectangular slabs of sides 50cm by 32cm.
Calculate the least possible area of the room in square metres and hence find the number
of tiles used.
31. Three tractors, each working 8 hours a day, can plough a field in 5 days. Calculate the
number of days that two such tractors working 10 hours a day would take to plough the
same field. (2 marks)
32. A laboratory technician mixed 240cm3 of ethanol whose density is 0.78g/cm3 with 500cm3
of sea water whose density is 1.03g/cm3. Determine the density of the mixture.
33. Three similar pieces of timber of length 240cm, 320cm and 380cm are cut into equal
pieces. Find the largest possible area of a square which can be made from any of the three
pieces.
34. Three similar rods of length 108cm.120cm and 144cm are cut into equal pieces. Find the
least possible perimeter of a square that can be formed from any of the three pieces.

35. It takes 42 road construction workers 8 days working 10 hours a day to complete a section
of a road. How many days would 60 road construction workers working 8 hours a day take
to complete the same section of the road working at the same rate?
36. Jemima’s team entered a contest where teams of students compete by answering
questions that earn either 3 points or 5 points. Jemima’s team scored 44 points after
answering 12 questions correctly. How many five-point questions did the team answer
correctly? (3marks)
37. A salesman is paid a salary of Sh. 10,000 per month. He is also paid a commission on sales
above Sh. 100,000. In one month he sold goods worth Sh. 500,000. If his total earning that
month was Sh. 56,000. Calculate the rate of commission. (3 Marks)
38. . The ratio of men to women in a self-help group is 8:13. Two more men joined the group
while 5 women left it. The new ratio of men to women in the group is 7:10.

(b) In the next month, she earned a total of Kshs.52,500. Calculate the value of goods she
sold that month. (4 marks)
(c) Calculate the percentage change in her sales in the two months. (2 marks)
