Unit Plan 2

School - Grade – 8

No of students - No of days- 7(5,2interactive)

Unit Introduction to graphs(ch-15)

Sub unit:
1. Graph (Definition)
2. Types of graphs
Bar graph
Line graph
Pie chart
Histogram
3. Cartesian plane & Coordinate axis
4. Plotting of points in Cartesian plane
5. Drawing of line graph & linear graph
6. Interpretation of line graph & linear graph
7. Application (comparison & analysis of data)

General Objectives: Upon completion of this lesson, students will be

able to
1. list and identify the parts of a graph
2. Interpret the information from each type of graph
3. Explain the concept of dependent & independent variables
4. Plot a linear graph using the coordinates of points & Cartesian
system
5. Discuss the purpose of each part of a graph

Lesson Plan 1
Date: Day: 1

Subtopics:
1. Graph (definition)
2. Types of graphs (only bar graph & double bar graph)

Specific Objectives: After completing the lesson learners would be able

to
1. Explain the different types of graphs & their uses
2. Plot the bar graph & double bar graph
3. Interpret the information from a bar graph

Prerequisites:
❖ Interpreting the given data
❖ Basic knowledge of Cartesian plane.

Induction phase: Bring a few graphs to the classroom. These graphs

could be from newspapers, magazines or other such resources. Ask the
students what they understand from these graphs and then explain the
purpose of graphs. Thereafter, briefly narrate the history of graphs. Tell
the students that the study of graphs is known as graph theory. Dénes
Kőnig, a Jewish Hungarian mathematician, wrote the first book on
graph theory. However, this book was so complex that very few people
understood it. The first simplified book was written by the American
mathematician Frank harary & it became very popular.
