For mainstream support, OpenText™ synchronizes support with the market by supporting the latest minor update of the latest
two major versions without additional maintenance fees. For non-mainstream, additional maintenance fees are required.
Product compatibility
Examples of product statements on compatibility:
n Some products guarantee backward compatibility for all minor versions within a major version, such as CentOS. Anything
that works on CentOS 8.1 works on 8.2, but not necessarily vice versa. For such products, the supported version number is
noted as 8.1 indicating support for 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, and so on. A separate table row would indicate support for 9.0.
n For other products, OpenText cannot rely on compatibility guarantees, so the version number is specified in full, indicating
support for that version.
For information on the environments supported by legacy versions, contact Customer Support ([email protected]).

Chapter 2
Software requirements
The following sections list software requirements for the releases on current maintenance. For a list of the releases, see
Introduction.
Note: For information about point release changes, such as 16.5.1, you must review the OpenText Process Automation Release
Notes document posted on My Support.
Legend
The following table describes the generic symbols used in all tables.
Symbol Description
Indicates a supported combination.
Indicates the minimal version supported in the major, minor, and patch release number range.1
Indicates a warning.
Indicates no support.
Supported Environments 7
1This symbol indicates support within a major, minor, and patch releases. For example,
n
If the supported version number is 1 , the symbol indicates support for all major releases from 1 onward including their
minor and patch releases such as 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 2, 3, and so on.
n
If the supported version number is 2.3 , the symbol indicates support for all the minor releases from 2.3 onward including
their patch releases such as 2.3, 2.4, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, 2.4.1, and so on until the next major release, which will be added as a
separate table row.
n
If the supported version number is 4.5.6 , the symbol indicates support for all patch releases from 4.5.6 onward such as
4.5.6, 4.5.7, 4.5.8, and so on until the next minor release.

The following operating systems are supported for individual use (development or demonstration purposes) but not for
production purposes.
An empty cell indicates an unsupported combination.
14 Supported Environments
Virtualization technology
Virtualization technology enables you to run multiple instances of operating systems and applications on the same server. As a
partner of VMware, OpenText™ supports the deployment of OpenText Process Automation on VMware ESX 3.0 and later
versions. However, running OpenText Process Automation on a virtualization infrastructure may have a negative performance
impact.
If you choose to run OpenText Process Automation on a virtualization infrastructure other than VMware and face issues likely
caused by the virtualization infrastructure, OpenText™ may ask you to reproduce the issues directly on physical computer
hardware. Any deviations and consequences deriving from this change of deployment of OpenText Process Automation on a
virtualization infrastructure are your responsibility and liability.
Supported Environments 15
Containerization technology
Containerization technology enables you to run OpenText Process Automation and its related components in a container.
OpenText Process Automation supports the following containerization products.

Java platform
An empty cell indicates an unsupported combination. For an explanation of the minimal version symbol , see Legend.
A bug in the Java 11.0.5 or lesser versions might crash the applications. Therefore, Java 11.0.6 or higher versions are
recommended and is mandatory for AppWorks Platform 22.4.
2
There is a known issue with JDK 11.0.20 or later when launching the OpenText CARS and OpenText Process Automation
installers. See the Known Issues, Deprecated Features, Discontinued Features, and Product Incompatibilities guide on My
Support for more details.
3
To use Java 17, OpenText Process Automation must run on TomEE 8.0.9 or later versions.
4JDK 17.0.8 or later versions are supported from AppWorks Platform 23.4 onward only.

TomEE Plus 8.0.11 or later versions are supported from AppWorks Platform 22.3 version onward only.
3AppWorks Platform 23.1 and later versions support TomEE Plus 8.0.9 or later versions only.
32 Supported Environments
OpenText™ Directory Services
The following table lists the OpenText Directory Services (OTDS) versions that OpenText Process Automation supports.
Note: From Process Platform 16.1 and later, OTDS is mandatory for user management because users, groups, and membership
must be synchronized from OTDS to the Identity Package.
Below table displays the versions of OTDS that are supported by the OpenText Process Automation. The integration with OTDS is
available for authentication and the Document Store integration with Content Server and Documentum.
Note: OTDS claims 100% compatibility between releases. As such, from AppWorks Platform 16.7 and later versions, the
concept of a minimal supported version is introduced for OTDS. This means that AppWorks Platform 16.7 and later versions
support OTDS 16.4 and newer versions of OTDS by policy.
An empty cell indicates an unsupported combination. For an explanation of the minimal version symbol , see Legend.

OpenText Process Automation and OTDS in their own application server. This issue was fixed in OTDS 16.6.3.
Supported Environments 35
OTDS Push Connector
REST (Generic) Push Connector
OpenText Process Automation supports the OTDS REST or Generic Push Connector, which integrates with other products via a
fixed API. This push connector has a generic part shipped with OTDS and a product specific REST API, which is implemented by
other OpenText™ products, such as OpenText Process Automation.
36 Supported Environments
Transport Layer Security
Transport Layer Security (TLS) secures the HTTP communication between the browser and web server known as HTTPS.
OpenText Process Automation supports the TLS versions supported by Java.
n Secure inbound communication: HTTPS communication based on TLS is supported via the web-application server TomEE.
n OpenText Process Automation bus level communication: Secure communication between service containers uses the
default Java TLS version.
n Secure outbound communication: OpenText Process Automation can communicate with different external systems and
services using TLS.
Although TLS 1.1 is supported by OpenText Process Automation, OpenText recommends not to use this as it is insecure.

Security algorithms
Secure Hash Algorithm 2 (SHA-2) is the security protocol for OpenText Process Automation. SHA-2 is a segregation of several
security hashes including SHA-256. For more information on this security protocol, visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-2.
The supported security algorithms for OpenText Process Automation depend on the Java version, the web server type, and the
type of communication.

There is a difference between the versions of the Subversion repositories and Subversion working copies. The software
configuration management table provides information on the supported versions of Subversion working copy formats. Although
OpenText™ supports the Subversion 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9 working copy format only, the Subversion server can be of lower or higher
versions. See the Apache Subversion website for exact information on the compatibility details between the versions of
Subversion repositories and Subversion working copy formats.
