Hi there!

I've decided to start writing a blog. My friends say it's a piece of cake. I just hope I can think of interesting things to
say each week and that I'll get lots of followers! Anyway, for my first post, I want to tell you a little bit about myself.
[1]

My name's Mia, and I'm currently 19 years old, living in a small, pretty town that's always full of life. My life has been
quite full, too, but not always in a good way. In fact, it has been like a rollercoaster, filled with ups and downs. At
various times, I've been anxious, depressed, relieved, and finally grateful, as you will learn. [2]

4
I grew up as an only child on a farm, which meant a lot of adventures on my own in our fields, creating stories about
imaginary friends, since there were no real children my age for miles around. I was taught at home until the three of
us moved to the town when I was 10, where I immediately joined the drama club. [3]

I was just starting high school when my doctor told me that I had a rare illness. It meant spending lots of time in
hospitals and missing out on school and drama activities. At the time, it seemed like the end of the world, but the
experience taught me a lot about being strong mentally and about how we can overcome problems if we think in a
positive way. I'm much better now. [4]

Forgetting about all that now, I love spending time outdoors, exploring new hiking trails. Perhaps sometime I'll share
with you the itinerary for my last hike in the mountains. It was awesome! I also love reading – any reading I can get
my hands on, really. My current favorite is a mystery novel that I can't seem to put down!

That's all for this week. I'll have to start thinking about a topic for my second blog entry. Maybe this is not a piece of
cake after all, but I'm sure I'll get my head around it.

PART 5 COMPREHENSION TEST (12 questions)
Read the blog and choose the best answer for each question. (5 questions)

Hi everyone! I've been asked by a few readers to give advice on foreign travel, so here goes!

Visiting a foreign country is an exciting adventure, especially for a young traveler! It's a fantastic way to explore a new
culture, meet different people, and gain new perspectives on the world. To make the most of your journey, here are
a few key tips to keep in mind. Whether it's trying a local dish, watching a national game, or visiting a beautiful
temple high on a hill at sunrise, be open to experiencing the unique aspects of the culture. This is your chance to step
out of your comfort zone and learn something new!

Before visiting a new country, learn about some of the customs and traditions of the place you're visiting. [1] This
shows respect and helps you blend in better. Read articles and online reviews on travel websites. Simple things like
knowing how to greet people or dress appropriately can make a big difference in how you're received by locals. Also,
find out about table manners – how to eat food in public.

While it's important to be cautious, don't let fear hold you back from exploring. [2] One piece of advice which I
received is this: after arriving in a new town or city, get a plastic bag from a small local supermarket. Carry anything
valuable that you must have with you in it so that you look like a local person going shopping.

Most good hotels provide a safe in each room where you should keep all your valuables, including your passport. But
always carry a copy of your passport, visa, and any other important documents with you. This way, if anything gets
lost or taken, you'll have backups to help sort things out. [3] Ask at your hotel reception for advice on places to go
and places to avoid.

It's easy to get carried away when you are buying things in a foreign currency, so make sure you know the exchange
rate, and always convert prices into dollars before handing over money. Look for student discounts or special deals
for young travelers. [4] Remember, experiencing a new culture doesn't have to be expensive. Indeed, sometimes the
best experiences are free!
Questions:29. What does the writer NOT mention in paragraph 2?

A. Food B. Language C. Sightseeing D. Sport

30. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?

language clothes
31. The word "it" in paragraph 4 means ______________.

32. In paragraph 5, the writer implies ______________.

A. hotel safes can be B. valuable things can be C. hotel staff sometimes D. passport copies can
opened by thieves stolen in the street steal things from rooms often be used for travel
33. Where is the best place in the text for this sentence? "The key thing is not to attract attention to yourself."
