The need an importance of diversification in productive activity in our
rural sector arises mainly because:-
2: it is essential and useful for providing productive sustainable, livelihood option for rural people
3: in India, much of the agriculture, employment activities are concentrated in the Kharif season.
4: whereas in Rabi season, it becomes quite difficult to find employment, specially in areas with
inadequate irrigation facilities
# The MSP system has so far favored only three crops, namely, sugarcane , Paddy, and
wheat. This encouraged monocropping and over exploitation of natural resources in
some areas
• crops, livestock fisheries, and forestry constitute the core section of agriculture as
strong stringy exist between these sectors, both being complementary to each other
• the prediction in particular of fruits, vegetables, milk, meat and fish has increased
remarkably during the last two decades, such a shift in the result of rising income of
consumers, changing consumption pattern and growing urbanization.
Benefits of agricultural
diversification
Agricultural diversification has contributed significantly to
the agricultural growth in India pacifically in rural areas
and new set of policy framework is needed to promote high value commodities
government needs to enhance resource allocation to marketing storage and
processing of high value commodities
a strong linkage amongst production, marketing and processing is an essential

the emerging opportunities in the high value field segment is to create a
environment by strengthening, vertical coordination between the farmers,
processors ,retailers and the consumers. It is also known as farm farm fork linkage.
Shift of workforce from
agriculture to other activities
Shifting of workforce from agriculture to other protective activities may
reduce the burden of population on agriculture and can solve the
problem of disguised unemployment and underemployment in
agriculture sector
• the efforts of government in the dairy sector has concentrated on building up and
strengthening the infrastructure in the state of produce production of quality milk
