MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD:

3 topics and construct your own problem:

1 for Age Word Problem

1 for Mixture Problem

1 for Distance, Rate and Time Problem

AGE WORD PROBLEM

Problem:

A father is 30 years older than his son. In 5 years, the father will be twice as old as his son. How
old are they now?

Solution:

1. Define Variables:
Let the son's current age be x.
Then the father's current age will be x+30 (since the father is 30 years older than the
son).
2. Set Up the Equation for the Future Ages:
In 5 years, the son's age will be x+5, and the father's age will be (x+30)+5=x+35.
According to the problem, in 5 years, the father’s age will be twice the son’s age. So,
we can set up the equation:

x+35=2(x+5)

3. Solve the Equation:

First, expand the right side:

x+35=2x+10

Next, move all terms involving x to one side and constants to the other side:

35−10=2x−x

Simplifying:

25=x

4. Interpret the Solution:

The son's current age is 25, and the father’s current age is 25+30=55.

Answer: The son is 25 years old, and the father is 55 years old.
MIXED PROBLEM
Problem:

A chemist mixes a 30% acid solution with a 60% acid solution to get 100 liters of a 40% acid
solution. How many liters of each solution did the chemist use?

Solution:

1. Define Variables:
Let x be the amount of the 30% acid solution used, and 100−x be the amount of the 60%
acid solution used.
2. Set Up the Equation Based on Acid Content:
The total acid content in the mixture must equal 40% of the total amount (100 liters).
The acid content in the 30% solution is 0.30x, and the acid content in the 60% solution is
0.60(100−x).
Therefore, the total acid content is:

0.30x+0.60(100−x)=0.40×100

3. Solve the Equation:

Simplify the right-hand side:

0.30x+60−0.60x=40

Combine like terms:

−0.30x+60=40

Subtract 60 from both sides:

−0.30x=−20

Divide by -0.30:

x=−20−0.30=66.67

4. Interpret the Solution:

The chemist used 66.67 liters of the 30% solution, and 100−66.67=33.33 liters of the
60% solution.

Answer: The chemist used 66.67 liters of the 30% acid solution and 33.33 liters of the 60% acid
solution.
DISTANCE, RATE AND TIME PROBLEM
Problem:

A car travels 120 miles at a speed of 60 miles per hour. How long does the trip take?

Solution:

1. Write the Formula:

The relationship between distance, rate (speed), and time is given by the formula:

Time=Distance/Rate

2. Substitute the Known Values:

The distance is 120 miles, and the rate is 60 miles per hour. So,
the time is:

Time=120/60=2 hours

Answer: The trip takes 2 hours.

After answering your own formulated problems. The following questions Should

be answered.

1. How did you formulate your own problem from the 3 topics mentioned?

Answer: By watching youtube video tutorials and scrolling through the internet and understanding it and also
to be honest, with the help of AI, not gonna lie I pick some ideas from it as well and it helps me understood it
more very well.

2. How did you determine that your own constructed problem is aligned in The 3 topics

mentioned?

Answer: Well, because it mainly talks about the said topics which includes age word problem, mixture
problems and etc., I positively think it is the right one as I compare it as well with your given examples in our
GC.

3. What do you think of the level of difficulty you encountered upon Constructing the problem?

Answer: I think it’s about right in the middle because the topic itself is already understandable but just the
way you wanna get your solution and answers is kind of a lil bit tricky for me but it’s fun though and it’s good to
way to kill some time, especially for me as an average who’s having a hard time in this subject.

4. How did you arrive at your answers?

Answer: From what I’ve seen on tutorials, I just compare it with my own and see if it aligns and it does.

5. Enumerate the steps you follow upon answering your constructed Problems.

Answer: First: Analyzing the problem

Second: Solving it step by step

Third: And lastly, checking the answers.

That’s all Thank You.
