I believe that humanities hold a lot of values for learners like myself and contribute towards my career
goals. Humanities uphold skills like communication, ethical judgment, problem-solving, critical thinking,
effective team work and real-world application of studied knowledge. Humanities are known to study
topics from a critical lens, and I believe that this ideology can contribute to my work life and career. The
humanities also teach empathy, how to weigh evidence skeptically, skills in writing and critical reading,
and they impart skills on how to be well-developed, critical and decent citizens.
I envision that critical thinking and problem-solving will be a big part of running a business. Using skills
gained from humanities, I can view phenomena from diverse angles to figure out a response that is
based on logic, evidence and existing knowledge. I also believe that humanities can help me relate well
with different people from different backgrounds and with different ideologies. This will help me be a
balanced leader who makes people feel comfortable and confident in their assigned roles. Humanities
will also contribute to me thinking creatively, which will be valuable when seeking, retaining and
advertising new products or services to a particular market.
The humanities can allow me to form unique viewpoints and express my response to different events
and ideas. This will result in my ability to perceive and analyze knowledge, using creativity to develop
innovative solutions to problems, and to use numerical data to formulate educated decisions and
actions. Humanities can also teach me to appreciate others’ viewpoints and to work collaboratively to
pursue common goals. Other skills like personal responsibility will allow me to foresee the consequences
of my actions and justify the choices I make involving myself and others. Lastly, the humanities can also
impart social responsibility skills on me so that I can understand what is best for society and the world
so that I act accordingly.
