Tutorial 1
1. In the unbalanced bridge circuit of Fig., find the potential difference that exists across the open
switch S. Also, find the current which will flow through the switch when it is closed. (Answer: 6
V, 1.25 A)

2. Find RAB in the circuit (Answer: 22.5 Ω)

3. Find the currents indicated in Figure. (Answer: I1 = 4 A, I2 = 6 A, I3 = 3.6 A, and I4 = 24 A)

4. Find the current supplied by the battery in the circuit of Fig. (Answer: 5 A)

5. Calculate battery current and equivalent resistance of the network shown in Fig. (Answer: 15 A,
8/5 Ω)

6. Find the equivalent resistance of the network of Fig. between terminals A and B. All resistance
values are in ohms. (Answer: 6 Ω)

7. Compute the value of battery current I in Fig. All resistances are in ohm. (Answer: 6 A)
8. Find the unknown voltage V1 in the circuit below: (Answer: -16 V)

9. For the circuit shown in Fig. below, find VCE and VAG. (Answer: VCE = -5 V and VAG = 30 V)

10. Using Kirchhoff’s Current Law and Ohm’s law, find the magnitude and polarity of voltage V in
Fig. below: (Answer: V = 24 V and I1 = 12 A, I2 = -4 A, I3 = 6A)

11. Determine the branch currents in the network of Fig. below:

12. Using KCL and KVL, find the branch currents in the given circuit. (Answer: I1 = 2 A and I2 = 1 A)

13. By using Kirchhoff’s voltage law (KVL) / Mesh analysis find the current flowing through a 4 Ω
resistor. [Answer: I3 = 4.1114 A (clockwise)]

14. Two batteries, A and B, are connected in parallel, and a load of 10 Ω is connected across their
terminals. A has an e.m.f. of 12 V and an internal resistance of 2 Ω; B has an e.m.f. of 8 V and an
internal resistance of 1 Ω. Use Kirchhoff’s laws to determine the values and directions of the
currents flowing in each of the batteries and in the external resistance. Also, determine the potential
difference across the external resistance. [Answer: x = 1.625 A and y = −0.75 A, current flowing
in the external resistance = 0.875 A, P.D. across the external resistance = 8.75 V]
