PHARMACOLOGY INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT
COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCE
TITLE: Summarization on some concepts of pharmacology Drug is any substance (other than food) that is used to prevent , diagnose, treat, or relieve symptoms of a disease or abnormal condition and all about drug is studied under the pharmacology. Pharmacology is the scientific study of how drugs interact with biological systems and how they affect the body. According to pharmacology drugs can be act by two mechanisms. 1. Pharmacokinetics (PK) is the study of how drugs move through the body, including how they are absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted. It involves studying the time course of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME), and how these processes are affected by various factors such as dose, route of administration, and other medications or substances in the body. 2. Pharmacodynamics is the study of what a drug does to the body, including how it interacts with receptors or other target molecules to produce its effects. It involves the study of the biochemical and physiological effects of drugs on an organism , including the mechanism of action and dose- response relationships. And those drugs are existed in different sources of drugs like: Minerals (eg.liquid paraffin), Animals (eg.insulin, heparin), Plants (eg.morphine, digoxin), Synthetic (eg.Aspirin, paracetamol), Micro organisms(eg.penicillin) and can be formed by Genetic engineering (eg.human insulin, human growth hormone). Characteristics of drugs can be vary widely depending on types of drugs, uses of drugs etc. But some main characteristics of drugs are: The effects of drugs can vary depending on dosage, route of administration, and individual factors such as age, weight, and overall health. Some drugs are addictive and can lead to physical and psychological dependence when abused. Many drugs can interact with other medications or substances, which can affect their effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.. Risks associated with drug abuse include overdose, addiction, long-term health consequences, and social and legal consequences. etc. The administration of the drugs can be done through: Enteral Route (Oral, Sublingual, Buccal, Rectal), Parenteral Route (intestinal mucosa, Intravenous (IV), Intramuscular (IM), Subcutaneous (SC), Intradermal (ID), Intrathecal (IT), Intraarticular (IA)), Transdermal, Inhalation, Topical etc. Also Interms clinical pharmacokinetics all drugs have a different parameters such as: Clearance, Volume of distribution, Elimination half-life, Bioavailability. Generally drugs are chemical substances that can have significant impacts on the body and mind. Drug misuse and addiction can be serious problems and appropriate policies and interventions are needed to address them. In addition, it is important to ensure accurate and reliable information is provided to prevent drug-related issues. Overall, drugs remain a complex and multifaceted topic that requires careful consideration and action from individuals and authorities alike.
