FS 2 Learning Episode 3 Understanding AR Concepts, Processes and Models

Mark Floyd Zapanta

Participate and Assist

You are now ready to participate and assist!

Understanding fully the concept and the process of Action Research will enable you to learn and provide
the needed assistance to your teacher mentor in doing Action Research.

Notice

What concepts have been emphasized in the task and infographics? Give at least four.

1. Action research is a method that allows practitioners to study and assess their work in a systematic
way.
2. Since action research is a continuous process, it must go through a cycle of planning, actions,
reflections, and change.
3. It helps teachers search for the problem in their classroom or school setting and identify its solution.
4. It entails more than just observation and modification; it also necessitates theimplementation of a
solution.

Since the 3 models are all for action research, what are the common elements of the three?
You can improve student participation in your course by devoting time and thought to shaping the
environment and planning each class session. The way in which you interact, both verbally and non-
verbally, communicates to students your attitude about participation. The goal of increasing
participation is to create an environment in which all students have an opportunity to fully take part in
the course and improve their learning.

Title and Author of the Action Research: Improving Classroom Participation to Enhance Academic
Performance

Key Components Entry from your Sample AR

OBSERVE Why students hardly participate in the classroom, and to investigate the
relationship between classroom participation and academic performance.
REFLECT This paper focuses on strategies to enhance classroom participation, aiming to
improve student engagement and academic performance. It explores reasons
for low participation and investigates the link between active involvement in
learning and academic success.

PLAN Explore the reasons why students hardly participate in the classroom, and to
investigate the relationship between classroom participation and academic
performance.
ACT One way to improve classroom participation is to create a supportive and
inclusive environment where all students feel valued and respected. Teachers
can set clear expectations for participation and provide opportunities for
students to share their opinions and ideas without fear of judgment or
criticism. Encouraging students to work together in small groups or pairs can
also help build confidence and increase participation.

What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how will these be utilized in your
practice?

Action research is a strategy for teachers to achieve classroom goals, allowing them to identify and fill
learning gaps and improve the overall educational experience.

Reflect
As a future teacher, is conducting an Action Research worth doing?
Why?
YES, Action research is an invaluable tool for future teachers as it systematically enhances classroom
teaching and learning. It empowers educators to identify specific challenges, develop solutions,
implement changes, and assess their effectiveness, fostering an environment of continuous
improvement. One key advantage of action research is that it encourages teachers to reflect critically on
their practices, enabling them to make data-driven decisions. By collecting and analyzing classroom
data, teachers gain insights into effective strategies and areas needing improvement, allowing them to
better address student needs.

Additionally, action research promotes professional development by encouraging a cycle of planning,

acting, observing, and reflecting. This proactive approach not only enhances teaching strategies but also
cultivates a more engaging learning environment for students. Collaboration among teachers is another
vital aspect; sharing findings fosters a culture of collective growth and innovation, ultimately
transforming educational practices within a school or district.

Thus, engaging in action research is crucial for aspiring educators. It not only supports professional
growth and student achievement but also contributes to a sustainable culture of improvement within
educational settings.
How can AR be useful for every classroom teacher?

Augmented reality (AR) technology is revolutionizing education by providing a more interactive and
engaging learning environment for students. Teachers can use AR to present information in a visual and
interactive way, catering to different learning styles and abilities. AR can personalize learning
experiences for each student based on their needs and interests, providing practice and feedback
tailored to their understanding. Furthermore, AR facilitates collaboration and socialization through
interactive group activities, promoting communication skills and teamwork among students. By
incorporating AR into the classroom, teachers can create a dynamic and personalized learning
experience that enhances student engagement and understanding. With the right tools and resources,
any teacher can harness the power of AR to improve learning outcomes and help students achieve their
full potential.

OBSERVE

Remembering my classroom observations in FS 1, I noticed that there are many questions that I raised in
my mind. These include:
a. Why does the student cannot put their attention in the class?
b. What is the reason why they didn’t have their focus on the lesson?
c. What are the other reason why they didn’t have enough courage to answer loudly ?

REFLECT

Think deeply about those problems, perhaps something must have been done to solve the problem or
answer the questions, like:

a. Motivating and Energizing Activities will be used before starting a lesosn

b. The teacher Must Put up a rules in the classroom before she/he start a lesson.
c. The teacher Must always use HOTS questioning or activities that may conclude Psychomotor,
Cognitive and Affective.

PLAN

Now, that I am in FS 2, I plan to make a plan for my solution to problem A because

As a teacher, the author accepts the role of parent in the classroom and believes discipline earns respect
from students.

ACT

My action will come later, given enough time in FS 2 or during my Teaching Internship.

Check for Mastery

Direction: Check from the choices, what answer/s respond to the question correctly and put an X if
otherwise.

1. Action research requires a teacher to be:

✅ observant of what is happening in the classroom

✅ asking oneself of how to improve teaching.
✅ following the daily routine all the time
✅ finding ways on how children should learn better
✅ blaming learners for their inability to learn.

2. There are many ways of doing action research which follow a cyclical process. The process include:

✅ Observe, Reflect, Plan, Act

✅ Observe, Plan, Act, Reflect
❌ Reflect, Act, Plan, Observe
✅ Plan, Observe, Act, Reflect
✅ Modify, Observe, Plan, Reflect

3. As an action researcher, I will be developing my skill as a person who is

✅ Systematic
✅ Reflective
✅ Rigorous
✅ Futuristic
✅ Situational

4. On which of the following would you choose to conduct an Action Research. Why?

✅ Change in the Classroom practices. Why?

Teachers must ensure students understand the importance of improving classroom procedures for
effective learning.

✅ Effects of curriculum restructuring. Why?

Because between teachers and students should be researched to show their impact, by providing
authorities with the evidence needed for informed decisions on curriculum redesign.

✅ Understanding of self as a teacher. Why?

Teachers need to be self-aware to assess their impact on students. This self-awareness is the foundation
for engaging students in programs and improving learning outcomes. Otherwise, teachers will not be
able to communicate effectively with students or enhance their learning experience.

✅ Teaching a new process to the students. Why?

Because a growth mindset in order to truly succeed. Teachers play a crucial role in this process.

5. Which of the following relates closely to what action research is?

✅ Used to address practical problems in the classroom

❌ Refers only to everyday life of the learners
✅ Allows teachers to study their own classroom
✅ Brings theories and practices together
