Lab 2 Computer Management Overview
Computer Management is a collection of Windows administrative tools that you can use to
manage a local or remote computer. The tools are organized into a single console, which makes it
easy to view administrative properties and to gain access to the tools that are necessary to
perform your computer-management tasks.

The Computer Management Console

The Computer Management console consists of a window divided into two panes. The left pane
contains the console tree; the right pane contains details. When you click an item in the console
tree, information about that item is displayed in the details pane. The information that is
displayed is specific to the item that you select.
The administrative tools in Computer Management are grouped into the
following three categories in the console tree:
 System Tools

 Storage

 Services and Applications

System Tools
System Tools divided into 6 types

#1. Task Scheduler

You can use Task Scheduler to create and manage common tasks that your computer will carry
out automatically at the times you specify. To begin, click a command in the Action menu
Tasks are stored in folders in the Task Scheduler Library. To view or perform an operation on an
individual task, select the task in the Task Scheduler Library and click on a command in the
Artion menu
How to create a new scheduled task
To check if your user account has enough permissions to create scheduled tasks in
Windows
1.Open Task Scheduler
2. Select Task Scheduler Library and right-click to open the context menu.
Choose Create Basic Task.

3. Enter a name for this new task and click on Next.

4.Under Trigger leave it on Daily and click Next.
5.As an Action select Start a program and click Next.

6.For Start a Program select any program from Program Files and click Next.
It can actually be any file as you only need to test this.

7.Press Finish to finalize creating the task.

If your Windows account has enough permissions to create scheduled tasks, there will be no
error message shown and the task will be created.
However, if you are logged in with an user account with limited rights you'll receive the message
You do not have permission to create or run scheduled tasks. If the error message is shown, it
means your user account does not have enough permissions to create scheduled tasks. You will
need to contact your administrator (if your computer is part of an organization) to give you
additional rights for creating a scheduled task

#2. Event Viewer

Use the Event Viewer tool to manage and view events that are recorded in the Application,
Security, and System logs. You can monitor the logs to track security events and to identify
possible software, hardware, and system problems.

All other activity such as OS changes, security updates, driver quirks, hardware failure, and so
on are also posted to a particular log. So you can think of the event viewer as a database that
records every activity on your computer.

With the event viewer, you can troubleshoot different Windows and application issues.
If you explore the event viewer in-depth, you will see different information, warnings, and plenty
of errors. Don’t freak out – this is normal. Even the best-maintained computers show plenty of
errors and warnings.

You will be greeted with this page

There are 4 types in event Viewer

The Administrative Events Log

You can expand the Custom Views tab to see your computer’s administrative events, like
this:

The Windows Activity Logs

You can also expand the Windows Logs to show various activities such as:
 Application Events: Information, errors, and warning reports of program activities
Security Events:
This shows the results of various security actions. They are called audits and each of them can be
a success or a failure
Setup Event:
This has to do with domain controllers, which is a server that verifies users on computer
networks. You shouldn’t worry about them day-to-day.

System Events:
These are reports from system files detailing the errors they have encountered
Forwarded Events:
These are sent to your computer from other computers in the same network. They help you keep
track of the event logs of other computers in the same network

For each shared folder or partition, you see the official share name (as it is viewed by others on
the network, if not hidden), the exact folder path, the type of share, the number of connections
made from the network to that folder and a short description (if available).
#4 local users and groups
Local users and groups are a feature in Windows that allows users to assign permissions and
rights to local servers. This feature can be used to limit the actions that local users and groups
can perform. For example, a user can be given the right to back up files or shut down a server
