SHANNON ABUCEJO E.

BSCE 4-4

ACTIVITY # 1
Write a simple reflection of your journey during the concept preparation and
its presentation before the panel. How did it help you work in a team and
how did it changed your perspective as a CE student?
ANS: My team and I wanted to find the perfect topic for our concept paper. We
brainstormed many ideas, but ran out of time during our presentation. We considered
"Safety Concerns in Bunawan, Agusan del Norte" and "Restoring the Butuan Polysports
Complex: A Structural Assessment and Implementation Strategy for Revitalization."

We asked for advice and decided on "Fractured Road Safety Concerns in Bunawan,
Agusan del Norte." However, the panelist change our topic "Assessment Road Safety
along Maharlika Highway (K-K) Specify, Bunawan Section, Agusan del Sur."

When we went to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to gather
data, we learned they already had a plan for that area. This meant we couldn't continue
with our chosen topic.

We asked for more advice and ultimately settled on "Assessment Road Safety along
BCIR, Agusan Misamis Oriental, (K1276-K1279) Carmen Section, Agusan del Norte."
It's been a challenging process finding a suitable topic, as it requires extensive
research.

This whole process helped me learn a lot about working in a team. We had to talk to
each other a lot, share our ideas, and listen to each other's opinions. It wasn't always
easy to agree, but we learned to work together and find solutions. It also changed my
perspective as a Civil Engineering student. I realized that real-world engineering
problems are often more complex than what we learn in class. This experience made
me understand that Civil Engineering is about finding practical solutions to real-world
problems.
ACTIVITY # 2

Prepare a brief profile of the topic of your research. Identify the gap and
indicate the objectives of the study.

A research gap on road safety along the BCIR, Carmen Section (K1276 to
K1279), Agusan del Norte, includes limited traffic accident data, minimal lack of safety
signage and reflective pavement markers or Internally Illuminated Recessed Pavement
Markers (IIRPM) lights, and minimal assessment of road conditions like surface quality
and geometry. Driver behavior, weather effects, and the effectiveness of current safety
measures also need further investigation for improved safety solutions.

Objectives of the Study

The objective is to assess the current road safety conditions along the BCIR, specifically
the Carmen Section, by analyzing traffic accident data, road geometry, surface
conditions, and driver behavior. This assessment aims to identify safety risks, evaluate
the effectiveness of existing interventions, and recommend for improvements in
reducing accidents and enhancing overall safety for all road users.
