3. In a rectangular coordinate plane, the coordinates of A and B are (8, −9) and (−11, −3)
respectively. A is reflected in the x-axis to form A' and B is translated rightward by 5 units to
form B' .

(b) P is a moving point in the same coordinate plane such that it is equidistant from A' and B' . Find
the equation of the locus of P .

7. Let f ( x) be a polynomial with real coefficients. When f ( x) is divided by x2 + 2x − 2 , the quotient and
the remainder are kx + 8 and −17 x − 5k respectively, where k is a constant. It is given that f ( x) is

(b) Let g( x) be a linear polynomial with integral coefficients such that g( x) is divisible by 2 x + 3 .

10. In a game, one member from each team will be selected to play a game two times. The team will get a
prize if the selected member has won the game at least once. QC team consists of Bosco and Sam, with
the probability that Bosco is selected to play is 0.8 . Suppose that the probabilities of Bosco and Sam to
win a game are 0.6 and 0.5 respectively. The probabilities of winning each game of each player are
independent.

(a) If Bosco is selected, find the probability that QC team will get a prize. (2 marks)

(b) Find the probability that QC team will get a prize. (3 marks)

(c) If the value of the prize is $10 000 , find the expected value of the prize QC team got in the game.

13. Let f ( x) = −3x2 − 6kx − 2k 2 − 8 , where k is a non-zero constant. The graph of y = g( x) is formed by

reflecting the graph of y = f ( x) in the y-axis and translate upward by 6 units. Denote the vertices of
the graph of y = f ( x) and the graph of y = g( x) by P and Q respectively.

(a) (i) Using the method of completing the square, express the coordinates of P in terms of k .
