Pattern 1. 「지각동사+목적어+목적격 보어 Pattern 2. 가주어 ‘it’


(현재분사/원형부정사)」
to부정사는 문장의 주어 자리에 올 수 있지만, to부정

‘보다, 듣다, (냄새를) 맡다, (감각을) 느끼다’ 등과 같 사의 내용이 긴 경우에는 이를 대신하여 가주어 It을

이 감각 기관의 기능을 나타내는 동사를 지각동사라 주어 자리에 두고, 진주어인 to부정사구를 문장을 뒤

고 하며, see, watch, hear, listen to, feel 등이 있다. 로 보낼 수 있다.

지각동사가 쓰인 구문은 ‘지각동사+목적어+동사원형/


현재분사’의 5형식 문장 구조로 쓰이며 ‘(목적어)가 … 1. It is hard to believe that you can understand us.
네가 우리를 이해할 수 있다는 것을 믿기가 어렵다.
하는 것을 보다/듣다/느끼다’등과 같은 의미가 있다.
「It+be동사+형용사+to+동사원형」 구문에서 It은 가주
어이고, 진주어는 to believe that you can understand

지각동사는 목적격 보어로 동사원형이나 현재분사(동사원형+-ing)를 쓴다. 현재분사가 쓰일 때는 진행의 의미


가 강하다.

Grammar Point

It + be동사 + 형용사 + to 부정사…

It is fun to watch funny videos. 웃기는 비디오를 보는 것은 재미있다.


It was easy to answer all the questions. 그 모든 질문에 대답하는 것은 쉬웠다.
It is not easy to keep a promise all the time. 약속을 항상 지키는 것은 쉽지 않다.
It is difficult to speak in front of many people. 많은 사람들 앞에서 말하는 것은 어렵다.

영어에서는 주어가 길어지는 것을 선호하지 않으며, 중요한 정보를 문장의 뒤에 위치시키는 특성이 있다. 따라서, 주
어 역할을 하는 to부정사가 길어지면 뒤로 보내고 문장의 주어 자리에 가주어[형식 주어] it을 두어 중요한 정보가 뒤
에 나타나게 할 수 있다. 이때의 to부정사구는 ‘~하는 것’이라는 뜻의 명사 역할을 한다.
[참고] 가주어 it은 주어를 대신하는 역할만 하므로 ‘그것’이라고 해석하지 않는다. 가주어 it은 문법상 주어 자리를 채
우는 역할을 할 뿐, 특별한 뜻을 가지지 않는다.

to부정사구의 의미상 주어
가주어 it과 진주어인 to부정사구 이외에 to부정사의 행위의 주체를 밝히는 경우가 있는데, 이 경우 일반적으로
「for+인칭대명사의 목적격」의 형태로 to부정사 앞에 위치시킨다.
It is hard for me to solve the problem by myself. 내가 그 문제를 혼자 푸는 것은 어렵다.
It is not easy for me to meet new people. 나는 새로운 사람을 만나는 것이 쉽지 않다.
문장의 형용사가 사람의 성격이나 성품을 나타낼 때 의미상의 주어를 「of+목적어」의 형태로 쓴다.
It is very generous of you to say so. 그렇게 말씀하시다니 당신은 참 너그러우세요.
사람의 성격, 성품을 나타내는 형용사: kind, wise, polite, honest, nice, clever, generous, foolish, silly, rude,
careless 등
