Structural Calculation
Report

This report discusses the load criteria, combinations and member fixity of the structure. The structure is
modelled using STAAD. Pro utilizing steel and reinforced concrete members and is designed using
AISC-10, NCSP 2015 and ACI 318-11.

Prepared By:

Civil Engineer

A. National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP), 7 Edition, 2015
B. American Concrete Institute (ACI) 318-11
C. AISC Manual of Steel Construction (AISC) LRFD
D. American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7-10
E. Uniform Building Code (UBC) 1997

II. Material Specifications

A. Structural Concrete
i. Compressive Strength
Suspended Beams, Column fc’ = 20.7 MPa (3000 psi)
Suspended Slab fc’ = 20.7 MPa (3000 psi)
Slab on Grade fc’ = 20.7 MPa (3000 psi)
Footing, Pedestal, Footing Tie Beam fc’ = 20.7 MPa (3000 psi)

B. Reinforcing Bar
i. Φ12mm and below fy = 275 MPa (40,000 psi)
ii. Φ16mm and up fy = 415 MPa (60,000 psi)

C. Structural Steel
i. ASTM - A36 (Carbon Grade Steel) Fy = 248 MPa (36,000 psi)
Fu = 400 MPa (58,000 psi)
ii. A325N High Strength Bolts
iii. F1554 Grade 36 Anchor Bolts

III. Loads

A. Dead Load

3
i. Concrete 23.54 kN/m
3
ii. Steel 77.00 kN/m
3
iii. Soil 16.00 kN/m

B. Superimposed Dead Load

i. 150mm CHB 3.11 kPa

ii. 100mm CHB 2.98 kPa

C. Live Load

i. Floor Live Load 2.40 kPa

D. Wind Load
Wind loads will be calculated based on the recommendation of NSCP 2015:

 Basic wind speed, V

V = 250 kph (NSCP 2015)

 Exposure Category
Exposure B - Urban and suburban areas, or other terrain with numerous
closely spaced obstructions having the size of single-family dwellings or larger.

 Wind Pressure, p in (kPa) for Buildings of all Heights

p = qGCp - qh (GCpi) (Eq. 207B.4-1)

where:
p = Design Wind Pressure, in kPa
qh = Velocity pressure evaluated at height h
2
qz = 0.613 Kz Kzt Kd V (Equation 207D.3-1)
= Velocity pressure evaluated at height z
Kz = Velocity pressure exposure coefficient evaluated at height z
(Table 207E.3-1)
Kzt = Topographic Factor
= 1.0
Kd = Wind Directional Factor
= 0.85
GCpi = Product of internal pressure coefficient and gust effect factor to be
used in the determination of wind loads for buildings (Table201A.11-1)
E. Seismic Load
Seismic forces were determined based on the equivalent static force procedure and
computed following the provisions of NSCP 2015 Chapter 2 Section 208. Structures or part
of the structure were analyzed to resist minimum total service forces assumed to act non-
concurrently in the direction of each of the main axes of the structure.

The site is > 10 km from the nearest fault as shown:

The table below shows the Seismic Load Design Criteria used in the design.

IV. Load Combination

A. Strength Design or Load and Resistance Factor Design (NSCP 2015 - 203.3)

For Reinforced Concrete Structure & Steel Structure (Basic Load Combinations)
(NSCP 2015 - 203.3.1)

Eq. 203-1: U = 1.4 (D + F)

Eq. 203-2: U = 1.2 (D + F + T) + 1.6 (L + H) + 0.5 (Lr or R)
Eq. 203-3: U = 1.2 D + 1.6 (Lr or R) + (f1L or 0.5W)
Eq. 203-4: U = 1.2 D + 1.0 W + f1L + 0.5 (Lr or R)
Eq. 203-5: U = 1.2 D + 1.0 E + f1L
Eq. 203-6: U = 0.9 D + 1.0 W + 1.6 H
Eq. 203-7: U = 0.9 D + 1.0 E + 1.6 H

B. Allowable Stress or Allowable Strength Design (NSCP 2015 - 203.4)

V. Allowable Soil Bearing Capacity

In the absence of geotechnical report, a conservative value of allowable soil

bearing capacity (SBC) which is equivalent to 154 kPa (2.1m from NGL) will be
used in the design of footing.
