Case study based questions are compulsory.

36 Case Study – 1
A hockey field is the playing surface for the game of hockey. Historically, the
game was played on natural turf (grass) but nowadays it is predominantly
played on an artificial turf. It is rectangular in shape - 100 yards by 60 yards.
Goals consist of two upright posts placed equidistant from the centre of the
backline, joined at the top by a horizontal crossbar. The inner edges of the
posts must be 3.66 metres (4 yards) apart, and the lower edge of the
crossbar must be 2.14 metres (7 feet) above the ground. Each team plays
with 11 players on the field during the game including the goalie. Positions
you might play include-

Forward: As shown by players A, B, C and D.

Midfielders: As shown by players E, F and G.
Fullbacks: As shown by players H, I and J.
Goal Keeper: As shown by player K

Based on the above information answer the following questions.

I. If a player P needs to be at equal distances from A and G, such that A, P 1

and G are in straight line, then find the coordinate of P.

II. Find the distance of the player H from Goal Keeper. 1

III. Find the coordinate of a point on x-axis which is equidistant from player I 2
and player E.
OR
Find the coordinate of a point on y axis which is equidistant from player A

India is competitive manufacturing location due to the low cost of manpower
and strong technical and engineering capabilities contributing to higher
quality production runs. The production of TV sets in a factory increases
uniformly by a fixed number every year. It produced 16000 sets in 6th year
and 22600 in 9th year.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

I. What is the production during 8th year? 1

II. Write the total production in (during) first 3 years. 1

III. In which year, the production is 29,200? 2

OR
Write the difference of the production during 7th year and 4th year.

38 Case Study – 3
A hot air balloon is a type of aircraft. It is lifted by heating the air inside the
balloon, usually with fire. Hot air weighs less than the same volume of cold
air (it is less dense), which means that hot air will rise up or float when there
is cold air around it, just like a bubble of air in a pot of water. The greater the
difference between the hot and the cold, the greater the difference in density,
and the stronger the balloon will pull up.

Laxman is riding on a hot air balloon. After reaching at height x at point P, he

spots a lorry parked at B on the ground at an angle of depression of 30 o. The
balloon rises further by 50 metres at point Q and now he spots the same
lorry at an angle of depression of 45o and a car parked at C at an angle of
depression of 30o.
Based on the above information answer the following questions.

I. What is the relation between the height x of the balloon at point P and 1
distance d between point A and B?

II. Find the numerical value of the new height of the balloon at point Q. 1

III. Find the distance between lorry and car. 2

OR

What is the distance of Car from the point A? [Take √3 = 1.73]
