Valley Social Club Newsletter for December 2024

Vol. 70, Issue 12 203-735-9106

285 Main Street, Ansonia, CT. 06401
Julianne’s Winter Wonderland

Hello Everyone,
I can’t believe we are doing our last newsletter ear 2024. We
had a wonderful year at the club and we had a lot of new
members that joined.
We already have the club Christmas tree up and all the
decorations too so the club is looking really nice and warm.
I am glad to be able to come in to the club because I got really sick before
Thanksgiving and was unable to be with all of you at the club’s Thanksgiving Dinner
on November 19th. I was able however to have a nice time with my family despite
being sick. My youngest grand daughter helped “Nania” or grandma in Italian for
those who don’t know that , she held my hand to go down the stairs. That meant a
lot to me and that is what the holidays are for. I mean family is everything!
I was hoping that Emmitt O’Brien would do their Community Dinner and they are
again. We all loved it in the past and they called to invite us. We can take two vans
full to this really fun time. I will tell you about it next newsletter but they really put
out all the fixings for this great dinner!
We will be having a Holiday Party on December 18th that is a Wednesday. We will
enjoy a nice lunch and sing some carols together so lets enjoy the holidays!
I would love to express my Christmas Spirit to all my Executive members that help
out doing so much all the time at the club. Gayle A. Lena I. Mary B. and the
extension of our board, Owen J. and Julie D. Without them all I could not see us
being the club we are!
I also would like to acknowledge the members
lost this year. We will miss them all very much
as the new year comes around.
Happy New Year to all and hers to a great
2025.
GAYLE’S CORNER BY GAYLE A.

Hi Everyone, I would like to tell you about my new hardwood

floors in my apartment. The color of the floors are like the ones
in our BHcare Clinic so its like greyish blue. I think it really
brightens up my place.
I finally got to go out with my friend. She has been working a lot
and we just could not get together. I have been with my family.
We went out to Cracker Barrell and then the Mall in Milford. We had a lot of fun
catching up with our busy lives. Something new for me is how I take the
transportation now. I am able to go places because I am no longer scared to try new
things. I enjoy the freedom it allows me and I am seeing people that I always wished
I could on the weekend. I feel like this changed everything.
My son Alex is doing well in West Virginia and he seems very happy too!
I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Lena’s Thoughts of the Month by Lena I.

I visited my mom and had a loss in my family too. My

cousin Elizabeth. She is in a better place. She is looking
down on me and saying “ Lena I am in a good place
free from the pain”. I miss also my first counselor at
Birmingham. Her name was Alice. Her birthday is in
December and I know she is also looking down on me. I
know she is ok and proud of me. December is a hard
month for me but its good to remember those who are
no longer with us.
On a nice note we went with Jacques to Yale to see the
students do a concert. It as really nice, very relaxing.
ODE TO A FRIEND BY MA B.

What happened to November? It went by fast but it was mostly a

great month. My son and I celebrated our birthday’s together. I
can’t believe I finally made it to 39!
Of course, I’m sure that we all need Lew from BHH to work off all
the new calories we put on from all the great food we consumed.
We had a wonderful meal at the VSC and those of us who were
blessed to attend enjoyed the friendship and family times together. Thanks to Tony C.
who took time to help Jacques, Phyllis, and Tracy C. for giving us all a great lunch.
In the upcoming holiday season , please keep those less fortunate and bless in your
thoughts and prayers because they would love to have what you do a warm place to
be.
Last but not least I lost a friend very suddenly. In a strange way I am thankful that she
didn’t suffer. She was also a former club member many years ago. RIP my friend.
Enjoy the holidays, do a small act of kindness for someone less fortunate and live in
peace and love.

Julie’s Season End View by Julie D.

Did two relaxing events in November with the club. The first was a trip to
Yale for a concert and the other was to Bella’s Pavilion for Day Social with
the group for pizza. I also bought a new Xmas tree that looks like a
gnome. I’m ready to start enjoying the holidays again!
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all!
