5. Editing and Formatting Axes, Manipulating Data in Tableau data, Pivoting Tableau data.

AIM:

Editing and Formatting Axes, Manipulating Data in Tableau data, Pivoting Tableau data.

SOLUTION:

Editing and Formatting Axes:

1. Edit Axis Title:

 Click on the axis title you want to edit.

 You can now modify the title text, font, size, color, and alignment using the Format pane or
the toolbar at the top.
2. Edit Axis Labels:

 Right-click on an axis and select "Edit Axis."

 In the Edit Axis dialog box, you can change the formatting of labels, tick marks, and other
axis-related properties.

3. Scale and Range:

 To change the scale or range of an axis, right-click on it and select "Edit Axis."
 In the dialog box, adjust the Minimum and Maximum values, scale, or range according to
your needs.
Manipulating Data in Tableau data

Go to Data source
Change Data Type

If Tableau has inferred a wrong data type for a column, the data type can be changed by clicking on
the data type symbol in the column header

New Column(Calculated Fields)

Calculated fields can be used if you need to create customized logic for manipulating certain data
types or data values. There are a large-range of functions available in Tableau that can used
individually or collectively for data manipulation.
Pivoting Tableau data

Pivoting data in Tableau is useful when you have data in a crosstab format and you
want to analyse it in a columnar format. You can pivot your data by selecting the columns
you want to pivot, right-clicking, and choosing “Pivot”. This will create new columns called
“Pivot field names” and “Pivot field values” which replace the original columns.
Remember, the key to effective data analysis in Tableau is having well-structured,
clean data. Once your data is properly organized, sorted, and filtered, you can create powerful
visualizations to gain insights.
In the above picture we have data in a crosstab format and you want to analyse it in a
columnar format. For that we have to select which columns we need to pivot like following
fig

This will create new columns called “Pivot field names” and “Pivot field values” which
replace the original columns.
You can rename those column names.
6. Structuring your data, Sorting and filtering Tableau data, and Pivoting Tableau data.

AIM:

Structuring your data, Sorting and filtering Tableau data, Pivoting Tableau data.

SOLUTION:

Structuring the Data:

Structured data refers to data that is organized and formatted in a specific way to make it easily
readable and understandable by both humans and machines. This is typically achieved through the use
of a well-defined schema or data model, which provides a structure for the data.

Sorting and filtering Tableau data

Sorting

Data can be sorted in ascending or descending order by one of these three options-

 Data Source Order- The order that the data source naturally orders the data. Generally for
relational data sources, this tends to be in alphabetical order.
 Alphabetic- The order of the letters in the Alphabet.
 Field- order the data based on the associated values of another field.

Types of Sorting

Computed Sorting: is the sort directly applied on an axis using the sort dialog button.

Manual Sorting: is used to rearrange the order of dimension fields by dragging them next to each
other in an ad hoc fashion.
In the below fig we have sorted the customer name based on profits field with an aggregation of sum

Suppose if we have multiple dimensions you can able to sort each individually pin separately like
following.
Filtering tableau Data:

 Tableau Filters change the content of the data that may enter a tableau workbook,
dashboard, or view
 Tableau has multiple filter types and each type is created with different purposes.
 It is important to understand who can change them and the order of each type of filter is
executed.

Dimension Filter:

Whatever the field you want to apply the filter drag that field to filters section like below
After dragging the filed to filters section a window will be open like below and there u can filter the
values of the filed 4 ways like: general, wild card, condition, Top

General means you can select randomly what values should be appear on the view.

After applying filter you can do quick filter by selecting show filter so that the filter will be available
to the right side of the view from there you can select the values.
Measure Filter:

Drag and drop the measure to the filters section

After applying the filter for measure we will have 4 options “range of values, at least, at most, special

Date filters:

Drag and drop date filed to the filters section there you will see lot of options like below
After selecting relative date we will have lot of options,
7) Advanced Visualization Tools: Using Filters, Using the Detail panel, using the Size panels,
customizing filters, Using and Customizing tooltips, and Formatting your data with colors.

You can create a parameter in tableau if we have lot of data we can filter the data by using
parameter also

Suppose we have taken cities field there are so many cities at that time we can create parameter
like below
We can select list and we can add list like top 5 or 10 or 15 so that the parameter list will be created
and you can apply the parameter like below

Left side below the parameter will be available right click on the parameter click on show parameter

Then parameter will be displayed to the right side of the view from there you can select the list
Customizing ToolTip:

Double click on the tooltip which is available in the marks card

You can add the text whatever you want to display

You can also format the text with colours and you can also bold the text you can arrange the text.
You can apply colours to cities by dragging city field to the colour which is available in the Marks card

You can adjust the size of the view by adjusting size in the Marks card
You can give the label to the view by dragging the filed to the label which is available in the Marks
card
