Chapter 3 : Window 10

Introduction:-
 Operating system (OS):- An operating system is a software that communicates with the hardware of a
computer and allows other programs to run.
 Common desktop operating systems include Windows, OSX and Linux.
 Windows and Linux can be installed on standard PC hardware, while OSX is designed to run on Apple
Systems.
 The hardware decides the type of an operating system that runs on a computer system.

Windows 10:-
 Windows is a series of operating systems developed by Microsoft.
 It was launched on 29 July 2015.
 It includes a Graphics User Interface (GUI), with a desktop that allows users to operating system for personal
computers (PCs).
 Windows 10 is an operating system that acts as an interface between the user and the hardware.
 It is built in the Windows NT kernel and follows Windows 8.
 Kernel:-
 A kernel is the foundational layer of an operating system.
 It functions at a basic level, communicating with hardware and managing resources, such as RAM
and CPU.
 The kernel performs a system check and recognizes components, such as the processor, GPU and
memory.
 It also checks for any connected peripherals.

Windows Media Player:-


 Window Media Player is an application program of Microsoft.
 It is used for playing and organizing audio and video files available in the computer memory.
 It helps us play, copy and create CDs/ DVDs.
 It also helps us copy music and video to portable devices.
 It comes pre-installed with all versions of Windows.
 For this: Click the Start button →All apps →Widows Accessories →Windows Media Player.
(Windows media player opens on your monitor screen.)
Using Media Player:-
To listen to songs on your multimedia software, you have to open it.
For this: Click the Library Pane →search the categories list of your choice to play →Double-click the selected item in
the Pane for playing it.
(Your selected item starts playing.)

Copying an Audio CD to a Computer:-


 With the help of Windows Media Player, you can copy songs from CDs/DVDs to the computer.
 For this:- Insert the CD into your computer’s CD/DVD drive→ Open Windows Media Player→ Select the CD
drive from the left sidebar→ Click on the Fip CD button at the top→ Choose the file format and audio quality
from the Rip Settings menu→ The ripping process will begin and the songs will be saved in your Music
folder.

Coping Data to CD/DVD:-


For this:-Insert a CD into the CD ROM of your computer→ Click the Burn files to disc File Explorer option→ Choose
With a CD/DVD Player option→ click the next button→ Drag the files → Click the Burn to Disc button from Share
Menu.
VLC Media Player :-
 VLC media player is the most stable, flexible and easy to use tool that plays almost all audio and video file
formats.
 For this:- Click the Start button→ VideoLAN→ VLC media player→ Media tab→ Open File option→ Choose
the audio/video files → Open button.

Uninstalling a Program from a Computer:-


 You can uninstall both apps and desktop programs from the Start menu.
 For this:- Open Control Panel→ Program group→ Uninstall a program → Find and select the program→ Click
the Uninstall button.

Power Saving Modes:-


 Windows provides several options for conserving power when are not using your PC.
 Sleep Mode:-
 A low-power state for devices where operations pause, the screen turns off, but memory remains
active.
 It allows quick resume without a full restart.
 Sleep mode is useful if you want to stop working for a short-period of time.
 For this: Open the Control Panel→ System and Security option→ Power Options→ Power Saver
section→ Change plan setting option→ In Put the computer to sleep option, choose the drop-down
list.→ Save Changes button.
 Hibernate Mode:-
 In Hibernate mode, computer first saves all the open documents and running applications to your
hard disk and then shuts down to save power.
 It is very similar to sleep mode.
 Shuts down completely, using no power.
 When you restart the computer, it will resume everything where you left off.
 For this: Open the Control Panel→ System and Security→ Power Options→ Choose what the power
buttons do options→ Change settings that are currently unavailable options→ save change button.

Troubleshooting Tips:-
 Detecting problems in a computer system when it is not working properly is called troubleshooting.
 Troubleshooting is the process of diagnosing the source of a problem.
 Suppose you are working on your computer and you system suddenly stops responding to your commands.
 You say that your computer is gung.
 To fix this problem: Press Alt+Ctrl+Delete Key combination→ Select the Not responding the application→
Click the End Task button .

Computer screen is blank:-


 It would not happen often, but there may be a time when something goes wrong and your Pc will display
lack or blank screen.
 Do the following to fix the issues.
 The computer may be in Sleep mode. Click the mouse button or press any key on the keyboard to
wake it
 Make sure the monitor or your computer is plugged in and turned on.
