Q1) A transmission line has a total per-phase impedance of (4+j60) and total shunt
admittance of j2x10-3 S. Using the nominal line voltage (345kV) and the three-phase
apparent power (100MVA) as base values, determine the per-unit impedance and per-
unit admittance of the line. Re-calculate the per-unit values new base values of 350kV
and 150MVA
Q3) Fig. Q3 shows the schematic diagram of a radial transmission system. The ratings
and reactance’s of the various components are shown therein. A load of 60 MW at 0.9-
power factor lagging is tapped from the 66 kV substation which is to be maintained at
60 kV. Calculate the terminal voltage of the synchronous machine. Represent the
transmission line and the transformers by series reactance’s only.

a. Using base values of 30kVA and 240V in the generator side (section 1), determine
the per unit impedances of the transformers, transmission line and load, and the
per unit source voltage. Draw the single phase impedance diagram and calculate
the load current.
b. Repeat a. assuming base values of 20kVA and 115V in section 3.
Q5) The rating of the generators and the transformers and their respective percent
reactances are marked on the diagram (Fig. Q5). The line impedance is j160 . A solid
three-phase fault occurs at the receiving end of the transmission line. Choose 100 MVA
as a MVA base and 30 kV as a base voltage in generator side. Draw the impedance
diagram in PU.

Q6) Fig. Q. 6 shows the one line diagram of a three-phase power system. By selecting
a common base of 100 MVA and 22 kV on the generator side, draw an impedance
diagram showing all impedances including the load impedance in per-unit. The data are
given as follows:
G: 90 MVA, 22 kV, x = 0.18 per unit
T1: 50 MVA, 22/220 kV, x = 0.10 per unit
T2: 40 MVA, 220/11 kV, x = 0.06 per unit
T3: 40 MVA, 22/110 kV, x = 0.064 per unit
T4: 40 MVA, 110/11 kV, x = 0.08 per unit
M: 66.5 MVA, 10.45 kV, x = 0.185 per unit
Lines 1 and 2 have series reactances of 48.4 and 65.43 Ω, respectively. At bus 4, the
three-phase load absorbs 57 MVA at 10.45 kV and 0.6 power factor lagging.

Q7) Consider the single-line diagram of the power system shown in Fig. Q7. Equipment
ratings are:
Generator 1: 1000 MVA, 18 kV, X” = 0.2 per unit
Generator 2: 1000 MVA, 18 kV, X” = 0.2 p.u.
Synchronous motor 3: 1500 MVA, 20 kV, X” = 0.2 p.u.
D–Y transformers T1,T2, T3, T4: 1000 MVA, 500 kV Y/20 kV D, X = 0.1 p.u.
Y–Y transformer T5: 1500 MVA, 500 kV Y/20 kV Y, X = 0.1 p.u.
Neglecting resistance, transformer phase shift, and magnetizing reactance, draw the
equivalent reactance diagram. Use a base of 100 MVA and 500 kV for the 50-ohm line.
Determine the per-unit reactance’s.

circuit. Let the load be modeled as a parallel combination of resistance and inductance.

showing all impedances in per unit.

and transformers are rated as follows: G1: 20 MVA, 13.8 kV, Xd” = 0.20 pu, G2: 30 MVA,
12 kV, Xd” = 0.20 pu, G3: 30 MVA, 20 kV, Xd” = 0.20 pu, Tr 1: 20 MVA, 220Y/13.8 ∆ kV,
X = 10%, Tr 2: 30 MVA, 220Y/13.8 ∆ kV, X =10%, Tr 3: 30 MVA, 220Y/22Y kV, X = 10%.
Draw the impedance diagram with all reactances marked in pu. Choose a base of 60
MVA, 13.8 kV in the circuit of Generator 1. (Lengths of lines 4-5, 4-6, 5-6 are 60 km,
